Default Help with Rudee Inlet

Going to fish Rudee for the first time the first weekend in March. Just trying to get info on area. Boat launch close to the inlet Hotels and restaurants. Fishing out of a 22ft Aquasport walkaround. About how far from Fayetteville, NC to Rudee. I really appreciate any info. I know some of you guys went a few weeks back so I will trust your advice. Thanks Chris.

Sndflea,
From Fayetteville, it will take you approximately 4-4.5 hours to get to Virginia Beach. There is a boat ramp approximately 1/2 mile south of the Rudee Inlet bridge. I believe that it is called Owls Creek. Rudy Inlet is very close to all of the hotels and the boardwalk where all of the action is. Viriginia Beach is a great place! Good luck!

Was there about 3 weeks ago for the first time myself. We put in at owl creek landing which is about a mile from the jetty through Rudee lake. Nice boat ramp with ample parking. Be aware the ramps are short and you can easily drop your trailer off the end at low tide.
We stayed at the Days Inn which is 2 or 3 blocks from the inlet and paid only $29 a nite for a relatively nice clean room. . .ask for the fishermans special. Days Inn is like alot of the motels in the area - no boat parking. We solved this problem by parking the boat at Virginia beach fishing center for a measley $10 per nite and took advantage of their wash down hose next to the charter boat docks. They also have a fish cleaning house on site if yer not in the mood to clean your catch. . . If you're looking for a "locals" type spot to eat, try the little joint in the corner of the VBFC parking lot. Awesome wings and seafood. . . If you need tackle, there are several stores in the area, but East End tackle on Northhampton has an ungodly assortment of stuff for Rocks. Overall, we had a great time fishing out of Rudee in less than ideal conditions. . .gotta love those jetties!!!
Hope this helps!

Go to the website Tidal Fish and look on the Virginia board you can get alot of really good local info from that website. The rockfishing has been really good for us this year out of there. One thing keep ypur speeds slow in Owl Creek the man is on patrol alot. Hope this helps.

As a matter of fact when you go to to Va. board on Tidal fish go to the thread that was posted on 2/12/07 about hotels in Va. Beach . The thread talks about a hotel in Va. Beach The Tropicana being the nastiest hotel in the entire United States. The colonial gets good reviews and they have a fishermans rate as well. If you post on that you can find out alot of good info.

sndflea,

From Rudee you'll be able to run either north or south depending where the fish are. Princess Anne Tackle on 17th St, 2 blocks off the oceanfront at VB is real close to the inlet and close to your hotel. They have a good selection for any tackle/lures you'll need, prices are very good as well. Anthony can tell you where the bite has been recently. Hopefully you will only have to run a short distance. I plan on fishing the next couple of weeks myself. Post me for details when you arrive if you like.

The ramp at Owls creek will be very crowded on the weekends. The line at the ramp starts around 5-6am and last till 8-9am. Have your boat ready to launch when you get there and be sure you have someone experienced along that can back you down the ramp and park the trailer. This is not the place for someone without experience backing or parking the trailer. Unloading moves along at a good pace so be ready! There is overflow parking across the street if the lot is full. The Best Western motel at the inlet is a good place to stay with boat parking permitted. Stop by Harpoon Larrys for killer steamed oysters & shrimp. We may see ya there! Good Luck, Randy

All good advise above.

Without pulling a boat I can get from Haymount to the Base in 3.5 hrs. The estimated time above should be pretty close with a boat.

Good luck and let us know how you did.

Going March 2nd-4th. If anyone else is going let me know. The more boats the better the chance of finding fish. I know when I find fish I try to let other people know where they are. I hate when someone does not like to share info. So if we can get a few Heels up there maybe we can bring home some big ones.

Hey guys thanks for the info was real helpful this weekend. Hotel worked out great and the boat ramp was not far away. Only about a 2 minute ride. Did manage to catch a few fish. It was slow. A lot of boats got the big goose egg all weekend. We did manage to catch fish saturday and this morning. No monsters biggest was 39 lbs, and did manage to loose a mid 40's right beside the boat, no net, will have one next time. So thanks guys and maybe I could get up with some of you at the next get together. Thanks again Chris
