Default Striper fishing on Lake Norman

I am wanting to start striper fishing. Are there any fish on Norman this ime of the year? Any sugestions for getting started? Bait etc. I have looked at the Lake Norman Striper clubs web site but not gotten much info there.

Yes, the stripers on Norman are biting well as of the last few days. Getting where to how to on local site I hear is tough though. Umbrella rigs have been productive recently up around hyw 150.

There are always stripers on Norman. Live bait in any of the major creek channels near humps or drops should get some fish.

Live bait is very hard to come by on Norman. Stop at Bobs bait and buy it. Try planer boards & free lines on points and humps around the park. If you want a better quality of fish, drive to lake Hickory, you can usally catch bait in Gun Powder Crk. Start your drift at Rail Road Tressel or 321 bridge and good luck.

Thanks,

I fished a couple weeks ago on Clarks Hill near Plum Branch SC. We used herring 4-5 inches long. Just dropped the bait to the level of the fished marked on the ff. Are herring the prefered bait on Norman?

Umbrella rigs at 20 feet, 2.5 - 3 MPH will do the trick.

Or you can rig a bucktail with trailer and troll it behind a #1 planer

Or you can get some live bait (any will work...shiners, shad, goldfish, bluegills etc.) and drift them across long points and sharp drop offs.

Above the 150 bridge is good now and there is some schooling activity going on.

Drop a small bait catcher rig tipped with worms and catch white perch and use them for bait along the same spots.

It should be getting pretty good right now all the way thru feb. Small bucktails and sassy shads are the ticket. 15-20ft deep. They should be with-in 2miles of the 150 bridge. The colder it gets the better the fishing will be. Good luck.
