Yes and Yes, they both work fine. Nothing around here to block the signals..
Have fun!

Dude it's satellite. If you can see the sky, you're good.

All the OnStar telematics, calling and vehicle services are routed via cellular networks, only the positioning and XM radio services are satellite assisted.
If you roll to Okcracoke you may lose coverage, not much coverage by any carriers down there...I love it.

Onstar works on Verizon Cell Towers where I live, and if you get in the Boonies, no dice. Had it for a year, needed it twice and it didn't work, note I said HAD it.

Onstar phone is not satellite. My grandfather got it in his new truck thinking it was (because he has a cabin in the middle of no where on the side of a mountain in VA and no cell phone service really works). His onstar phone still gets a better signal than his handheld, but it's cellular nonetheless. That being said, cell phone service in Kitty Hawk, KDH and north NH is fine. Headed south in Nags Head toward OI and it's sketchy for me on Sprint and my buddy on Verizon until you cross the bridge and get a little ways toward Avon and so on.

I think if your car is 2003 or earlier your OnStar system uses Verizon's analog cell network. Later models are digital ready but I don't kow the exact cutoff date...go check Verizon's coverage map....

I am with Southern Fried. A high tech person I am NOT!! All I know is that all my stuff works when I need it. I get a e-mail each month from ON-Star that tells me my mileage and when to change oil, the phone in the vehicle works, sattelite radio works, and my Cingular cell phone works whenever/wherever...
Many times I turn it all off ...

Regards and Have Fun,
