Got back from fishing today guys. Seas were 2 feet out to 35 miles.
Went 5 for 5 on YFT, no dolphin or bigeyes. All fish were 35 lbs or better. We had a double header and got a 50+ lb fish along with another one. Definately need to be there for the morning bite, First lure in the morning lasted about 2 minutes in the water before fish on.
Colors were blue n white seawitches, red/white cedar plug produced two fish.
I'm exhausted from today, fishing all day on three hours sleep, and then cleaning tuna for 3 hours has got me wore slam out, and I gotta work tomorrow. Give a better report tomorrow, Gus has plenty of pictures for you all also.
I would love to catch some tuna. Do you fish structure or just look for birds and bait? What's available for lodging in the area? Thinking I might come up and try this out this weekend.
Sean, the lodging is all free and clear of tourists now, boat parking en masse available at any major hotel. For real nice, the colony four motel in KDH is nice, and for low down, need a bed to sleep on, the dunes in NH is about right.
We were following the OI fleet out, most all the boats were working a section of the atlantic ledge 35 miles from the sea buoy due east from OI. Right about where it drops off from 300 to 1000+ feet.
Be prepared to navigate OI in the dark, because the morning bite is what's on now. By 9am, it was all over. I feel that we were real lucky to get a double header about 11am. We were trolling away from the fleet when I saw a silvery flash off the satrboard side, said to the boys, just saw a tuna, and bam, both rods go down. Nobody around us, until about 15 minutes later when a charter who saw us motored his spread over the spot also. Funny how a double attracts everybodies attention. Oh well, they share with me too.
Most guys were getting strikes and then having them throw the hook after a few minutes of fighting, don't know why. I credit our fish, and not breaking any off, to Auguste's excellent tackle and thoroughness on the rigging. He watched over everything like a hawk and even reprimanded us at a time or two. MikeG and Gus really helped out, and Trigger is an awesome man at the helm. Pretty good for a first time crew, and a boat with no outriggers.
Anyways,
Alan fished today I think, Alan, where's your report?????
