I heard some similar rumors about closing the MHC port during the Tall Ships, but that never happened. If they didn't do it for Tall Ships, I doubt they'll do it for a power boat race.
What kind of power boat race? Havent heard anything about it.

port area is closing on Sunday. Starting at 10:00am for first race at 11:00. May reopen for a short time then closed again at 12:00 for race at 1:00pm. I understand that these are the 100mph offshore type boats. The course is from the west entrance to the MHC waterfront to the CG station. The entire race area is closed to all boating during these times. I don't know how many laps constitute a race. Will be some tough turns. This is different than tall ship event. Can't share the waterway with the race boats. The no-wake is suspended for the racers during the races but no other time. This is straight from the Coasties.
Closed or not, I would want to be in the turning basin in my little boat during a race. It is dangerous enough from the "no wake" zone to the inlet on any weekend summer day.
this drawing is from one of the Fort Macon Coasties that posts on a local board. According to this there will be no transiting the port area during the closures. The safety zone will be the closed area.
