I will hint at asking what a customers boats sold for but I don't feel their money is my business. Even if I was posting the prices they sold for, it really would not help you much. You could sell two of the same boat one week apart from each other and there can be a major difference in the sold prices. All depends on the buyers and the sellers situation, condition of the boat, location of the boat, extras, etc.
Some guys are just looking to "feel" like they got a deal.
For example: Say you have a boat that you would like to get 50K for (And it is a boat worth that). You may get a bunch of guys offering 40K just because they have in their minds that anyone selling a boat right now must be tapping in to their kids piggy banks to buy a loaf of bread. This is what they think but no where near a reality.
Anyway, so if you are only willing to go down to say 45K these guys will not "feel" like they got the best deal around. Now if you put your asking up to 60K there is a good chance someone will just offer 45K. Then you say "if you make it 50K and can do it this week I will let it go." Now they just got the boat for 10K below your asking. They feel great! They can tell all their buddies what a killer deal they got.
Guys here are a little cloudy on the boat market. The reason is that THT members make up about 1/100th of 1% of the boat buying market. The general public doesn't get into this stuff like we do. Most are still looking for a good boat for a good price. The example above is a good way to combat the lowballers.
The best way to figure out what your boat will sell for is to put it up at a price you would be real happy to get for it (within reason of course) Then leave it for a week. If no calls or emails come in then drop it a little. If still no calls or emails then drop it a little more. As soon as the phone starts to ring or emails start to come in leave the price alone. If people are calling then you know you are in the right area.
Trying to sell a boat by just using THT (or the other fishing forum websites) is going to be very difficult. We are a very elite and very small group of boaters
The general public is who you want to sell to.
Tight lines, Bob
