I do not need another boat, but its hard to pass this up. I grew up fishing on a 28 and a 37 Topaz and the 24 has always been my favorite to look at. What kind of running gear is on the boat? Size of shaft etc... I would like to power with diesel, if I make a move on this boatI need to figure what it would cost to repower. How high will it be when sitting on a trailer, and does the tower fold? Sorry for all the questions, but that boat is awfully sexy.

I'm interested in your boat...my first question, is what stopped you finishing..are you at the point where an engine & gear will complete the project ? will the wood in the boat ( stringers, transom, deck) stand survey ? can't really see from photo..are the shaft, rudder and strut mounted ? how hard to have the tower taken down for shipping ? did you reletter the transom? has the rewire been done ?
Mark, I agree with you. I have looked at this thread 10 times already. You look at some boats and say why in the world would you want that boat...it's old, no engine, little to no weather protection, lacks modern amenties...and I say, right. It doesn't have all those things but it is unique and a classic. I love this boat...if you buy it, I may force you to let me help you work on it!
Love this boat. What a boat with a little diesel to give it a 25 knot cruise with 3-4 nmpg.
DoradoSteve, I hope you understood that I was complimenting the boat. I agree with you 100%, that boat has classic lines and there is nothing available new like it. I hope Mark jumps on it so I can help him finish it! I wish I could afford another boat, I like that boat alot. Talk Mark into buying it!
That boat is the perfect island boat. Cheap to run, easy to fix , wish I had a home in the islands to give the Topaz a place to stay.
I love your boat, if it was 6 feet bigger I would love to buy it, I LIVE IN WOODS HOLE MA. AND THAT IS NOT BIG ENOUGH. Would you be kind enough to help me find somthing just like, but bigger I have a small budget but great resources, $10,000 to $20,000 would be good. thanks for the help Paul N oonan
Steve,
That is one fine boat! For the one who asked: the floor on mine is exactly 4' off the ground on a 10,000 lb dual axle loadmaster trailer. So it depends on how high Steves tower is and where it folds (if it does). A 250 hp diesel should give it a cruise of 25 knots.
Nice boat. I'm like the fella from jax. With three boats and a to do list a mile long I'm thinkin I need some professional help. If I still feel the same way about your boat in a day or two I'll need directions to your yard.
With the buggy top folded how high is it from the deck to the highest point? If the 4' from the ground is correct and your not too high I may be tempted to come and get her.

Very nice! How about cabin and cockpit pics? What is the draft? Is there any space available for additional fuel capacity? I'd like to see how the console / e-box would handle larger size LCD's too.
That has to be one of THE finest looking boats I have seen in a long while!!! I currently run an inboard 22 Shamrock, the stability and economy of the inboard on a center console is amazing!! Having the center of gravity down so low, and dead center of the boat makes for an incredibly comfortable ride, it will also keep anyone pretty comfortable on that tower!!!
Make no mistakes about this boat, it is almost as legendary as the 31 Bert. An inboard center console , once you ride on them in snotty weather will make you a believer. A ride on a 24 Topaz will make you wonder why you didnt get in one, even earlier.
This Specific boat clearly has tremendous potential, and reworking that tower for fold down can be done by any experienced fabricator for somewhat short money!!
If the guy coming from Orlando buys the Hydrasport on Sunday, I will be in Palm Beach on Monday or Tuesday with an empty trailer and a hacksaw!!!!! Now for power? Maybe a junkyard Dodge 5.9 cummins and a marinization kit, or a small Volvo. What would a 300hp Yanmar do to that beast? If this goes down the fun is about to start!!

Sounds like the tower will have to be made to fold. Have you ever thought about removing the cuddy and turning it into an open boat? I think I would if I end up with the boat. Thanks for the info. I am just not ready to be a 2 boat owner, when the HS is gone I'll come see you.
