1981 HydraSports 2400CD - cuddy cabin/ express with Kevlar hull; repowered with 2005 Yamaha 200 OX66 in April of 2005 (currently around 200 hours); 2000 LoadRite dual axle trailer; new stainless bimini top and curtains in 2004; outriggers, Garmin GPS/chartplotter/fishfinder, Standard VHF; 119 gallon gas tank; boat has been completely rewired and has numerous other updates.
I hate to sell this boat, but I am making a career change and need to downsize. This boat handles well for its size and is an economical, comfortable offshore boat. The boat is ready to go - just had it 55 miles offshore catching dolphin and wahoo yesterday. The pic below is from before the repower, but I will try to take some new pictures this week.
A few people have asked for numbers, and I had the boat out today, so I wanted to post some more exact numbers. W/ a full tank of gas, 5 adults on board, and the curtains up, the boat does 30 mph at 4000 rpm and 41 mph at WOT.
Can you tell me what you think the total tow weight would be?
Do you have any ideas on adding additional seating? I mean something more than folding deck chairs.
Thanks!
The boat is still for sale. My very rough estimate at tow weight is about 5500 lbs, maybe a little less. I may be off, but I am basing this on 2700 lb hull weight (just a guess since I don't have specs on this hull - the 1992 22' HydraSports weighs 2200 lbs, and this is the same hull +2'), 500 lbs for engine, 1000 lbs for trailer, and 1300 lbs for fuel and gear. I tow it with a Tahoe with no trouble at all. The prior owner towed it with a smaller SUV and claimed that he didn't have any problems either. It is a smaller 24' boat, so it really tows more like a 21-22' boat.
As far as seating goes, I use a 160 quart cooler with a cushion for extra seating when I'm cruising, which is rare. I use beanbags for seating when I'm fishing. You certainly could add something more permanent (like a swingback cooler seat in the cockpit, or more pedestal chairs) if you wanted. The boat also has a thru-bolted fighting chair deck plate in the cockpit; you could get a removable pedestal that could attach to that with 3 bolts.
Shoot me a PM if you have any questions. Taking her out billfishing in the morning - sure am going to miss her!
How well does that splashguard keep water out with the notched transom?
It certainly isn't watertight, but it definitely helps keep anything other than a little bit of water out of the cockpit. I have never had a problem with water in the cockpit, and I have fished in some very snotty stuff in this boat.
Do you have the cushions for the cabin ? Is that a partial beam Aluminum trailer, and what type of brakes? What shape is the topside gelcoat in ? What is the model # of the motor ?
Also sent you a PM
