This is the classic Bertram “Moppie,” (Hull #251). She’s a well-loved and well-kept boat that still turns heads at fuel docks. She’s located in Solomons Island, MD.
Awlgrip hull paint was applied 2001, and she’s been kept under cover and on a lift ever since.
She had a major renovation in 2003, including:
• Repowered with two SeaMaxx 5.7 liter carbureted V8 engines; 310 hp each, 600 hours. Nibral props.
• Completely rewired.
• All new instruments including Floscan fuel meters. (She gets over 2 mpg -- 10 gph -- at 21 knots, or 1.8 mpg at 30 knots, which is my normal sustained cruise speed.)
• Garmin fishfinder/chartplotter installed w bronze thru-hull transducer
• New gel coat on decks. Hardware re-chromed or replaced.
• Automatic fire extinguisher installed in engine room
Her original fiberglass fuel tanks, which were vulnerable to ethanol fuel, were replaced with new aluminum tanks in 2006, before local marinas started selling ethanol fuel.
She got new risers in 2011.
In 2012 her bottom was resurfaced and gel coated.
This boat was running flawlessly and had just been detailed and waxed when put up on land in June 2013 to make room for a new & bigger boat. I will be sad to see her go.

Update, in response to queries: No trailer. Fuel capacity 84 gal (two tanks, 42 gal each side). This is a true inboard, as originally configured. She's the Mark II Sport Convertible model, configured with Vee drives. The props are 16-inch x 19. (The original boat had 15 x 18, but the new engines are stronger than the original Chryslers they replaced, so we went up an inch.)

A Judge 27 Chesapeake with a Honda 250. Not as pretty as "Muckraker," but purpose-built for fishing the Cheseapeake. And she's got a pilot house, which I figure will extend my fishing days for another decade or two.

20 gph at 21 mph and 2.0 mpg. One of these is a misprint? I would expect it to be a lot faster, they are amid-20s cruise with the twin 140 I/Os as I recall. Those look like 28' Bertram numbers with twin 350ci.

The 140's were four cylinder i/o's. The boat was designed for light weight engines. The V8's never worked on the 25 Bertram. Too heavy and you had to carry way too much weight in fuel. Even the six cylinder i/o's were no match for the four cylinder. The 25 was meant to run flat, fast and light to use the lifting strakes properly. Our original 25 was a 1963 rag top with 100 volvo's before the switch to four cylinder chevy's in the fly bridge model. The 140's were the best engine for the Bertram 25. Light, fast, simple and easy to change out.

Yes, inboard. Fuel capacity is 42gal in each tank (port and starboard). There is no trailer,

This boat was originally configured as an inboard with vee drives and that's the way she's still set up. Many of the B-25's came with IO drives, but this is a true inboard.

She's the Mark II Sport Convertible. You can see the original spec sheet here:

She came originally with 195-hp Chryslers and 15-inch props. Bertram claimed a top speed of 41 mph. With the stronger 310-hp engines and bigger props performance is of course improved considerably.

She topped out at well over 40 knots when we briefly opened her up after repowering, but I frankly don't recall the exact speed. I seldom run her over 3200 rpm, which drives her at over 30 knots. Engines are rated for 5,000 rpm max intermittent, and 4,000 rep max continuous.

Props are 16-inch x 19. We went up an inch in diameter with the new engines, which are stronger than the original Chrysler V-8s. I still have the original 15 x 18 props, which could be used as spares with some sacrifice in performance and economy.

You are right of course. I will correct that to 10 gph.

I pay most attention to the mpg figure when running. A nice feature of the Floscan meter is that it gives a fairly accurate read on fuel consumed,

It IS a lot faster. My normal cruise is around 30 knots. And she's capable of much more.

I know those old I 4`s were tuned low an turned many hours.
Old Volvos were based off the old Ford tractor motah. Great motah.
