I'm at the point where I really need a larger boat. With a family of five, we've gotten away with me and my wife sleeping in the cabin and the kids sleeping in a tent on the deck. Well, one of the kids is now 6'2" and 225. The other 2 are growing fast.
That would be enough reason, but the type of fishing I do most often is far offshore, and when doing overnighters 80 nm out from the closest port I'm jonesing a few creature comforts - like a microwave, enclosed head, hot coffee and a place for more than one person to stretch out.
Don't know what I'll go into next - maybe a downeast design with diesel power. The new parker 34 looks sweet but it's too new to get a good feel for it.

Alloy, last canyon trip we ran well south of the tails via little tails from new london. We probably ran about 250 miles and ended up burning 180 gallons. The trip out used roughly 30% more than normal offshore trips, but you do have to account for head seas and hill climbing.
I'll dig up a picture of the tent....

Ok, here are a couple of pictures showing the "salon".. lol
We do this to allow 5 people to sleep on the boat. The three kids sleep in the tent, and the dog gets the space between the helm and companion chair (stateroom 2). We of course get the master stateroom.

Update on the fuel burn numbers. This weekend I did another offshore trip. Left New London Sat afternoon in some real slop, went to the race and did a bunch of drifts, then went to Montauk to spend the night.
Sunday we left with full tanks, a full crew, bait, ice and gear. We stopped and caught some bluefish at the point, then shot out the fingers (north of the dump). The sharks weren't cooperating so we headed back to the gully (intense rain storm blew over - boat handled it great - full rain gear, wind going sideways, and white water everywhere for a little while). We then returned to New London.
Dock to Dock, it was about 160 nm, and we burned about 95 gallons averaging about 25 knots.
The difference between this trip and the last one is that we weren't pounding our way out in a stiff head sea.
Buy now and get a discount from me not having to pay storage and next years slip fee.....
