I'm in the business and don't usually post any boats here. But this is for a friend of mine and the boat is unbelievable. Took her for arun last week. The fit and finish is excellent, fuel economy is a gallon a mile. He really needs to move the boat and will consider a center console in partial trade. Over $650k invested. She's a 2006 37' Shearline Boat Works, powered by twin Yanmars 370hp., 260 hours, 25 kt cruise, Bosch hardtop, Release Helm Chair, Rupp outriggers, Furuno Navnet. The current asking price is $429,000.
Just fished a tournament on " Shady " I usually run a 50' Viking and aside from size, this is an equally awesome boat. Someone could wak away with the medium size sportfisherman of a lifetime. By the way, we fished a solid 20 hrs on this boat........61 gallons.....unbelievable.
She handles very well with the prop pockets, no issues around the dock. For some reason I can't find the engine room pics, but I'll get some. Here are a couple of pics of the salon area couch. The engine access is under them. Very easy and open access. When the owner had this boat built he was involved with every aspect of the layout and design. He put a lot of thought into every detail. We've sold quite a few "Carolina Boats" this is by far the best construction we've seen. The other nice feature. The whole salon area can be hosed down. All the cabinets are Lexan. Pull the cushions out of the way and spray her down.
How does she handle a moderate following sea or beam sea? How did the builder get enough weight aft to make a nice handling CG scenario so she is not squirrely? Was there any lead added to the stern?
I am the owner of shady. The boat runs great in a following sea and does not skate at all. She runs very proud and with the 2.5 to 1 gears and big wheels, she pushes straight.
The builder did want to add about 750 pounds of lead ballast, but I chose not to haul it around. She runs just fine without it, but could easily handle the weight if someone choose to add it.
I had a professional North Carolina captain out of Hatteras on the boat for a few months while we shook her down. He loved her and did have a couple quotes I think are worth mentioning. He loved the mechanical lavout and said; "This is the smallest 50 foooter I have ever run." He made a few changes with the builder, the biggest being the trim tabs. We changed to a larger tab so she would push the nose harder into a big sea. It worked great!!!
Should anyone have any specific questions, I will be happy to answer them as best I can.
Mr. Shady: Absolutely beautiful proportioned lines on your boat! Superb job to both you and the builder. It is very difficult to get the length of the deckhouse and the length of the bow to be both symmetrical and proportional.
Thank you for answering the weight in the stern question. It is super difficult to get enough weight astern in that size boat and given the propeller pockets, even more weight came out. Those large wheels will make a difference as they grab and bite more water area per revolution.
Beautiful boat from the pics. I have not seen this boat in person, but have seen a couple of smaller Shearlines. Their fit and finish, and attention to detail, is second to none. Good luck with the sale.
