If you're not familiar with Arimas, you can learn a lot by searching the posts on Hull Truth; there's also an active and enthusiastic Arima Boat Owners Group on MSN. Bottom line is that Arima makes some very strong small fishing boats, built for going fairly far offshore for salmon in the Pacific Northwest, and very much at home going for stripers, blues, and other East Coast species.
This 1998 Sea Ranger 19 has been used for fishing and coastal cruising, and features amenities like upgraded cushions, teak cabin door and grab handles, and a unique carrying rack for the included inflatable two-person kayak. Use the kayak to get ashore from a mooring or anchorage, or motor out to an island and explore under paddle power. The rack is fully removable, and leaves no trace when not installed - if you just want to fish, you'll never know it was there.
The Honda 90 has about 550-600 hours, runs well, and has always been well maintained with regular oil and gear oil changes and dealer-performed inspections and adjustments, as well as a new thermostat and water pump impeller in 2005. The control box (throttle and gearshift) and external wiring harness were replaced in 2003, the external fuel line in 2006, and the fuel tank filler assembly this spring.
The Arima hull has much in common with the New England lobsterboat design – beamy for its length (a full 8 feet), with a high bow and relatively flat stern section. This allows it to plane easily at low speeds (10-12 knots), which provides excellent fuel economy (5nmpg in good conditions). The boat's construction is simple, functional, and highly maintainable.
Fishermen will appreciate the deep, spacious and uncluttered cockpit, livewells, and fish storage tray, as well as the boat’s outstanding stability when drifting or anchored up and the huge range provided by the 48-gallon fuel tank (made of plastic and located above deck for long life and easy maintenance).
The 6’-4” cuddy cabin can be used for overnighting, and includes full cushions, tinted glass hatch, storage, and porta-potty. Includes factory bimini, plus side and back curtains and a sloping-back cockpit cover. Can be seen in Boston.
Other features:
- Dual batteries with switch
- iCom VHF radio, Raymarine fish finder
- Swim ladder
- Folding extra-long stern light pole
- Custom 10-foot wooden boat pole with copper fittings
- Spare Honda propeller, with wrench
- Two anchors (Claw and Danforth), each with 150 feet rope rode plus chain
- Upgraded bilge pump (800 gph) with float switch
- Extra docklines including custom-made Y-shaped bow line, six fenders, two flotation cushions, throw bag with retrieval line, polypropylene towing line
Not included, but available by negotiation, are two SOSpenders automatic inflatable PFDs, a brand-new Fiorentino sea anchor with 250-foot rode and retrieval buoy, a Smith & Hawken folding teak cockpit table, two 6-foot Penn Special Boat rods with Penn 309 Levelwind reels, fish net, and other assorted fishing tackle for stripers, blues, and groundfish, and a large red patio umbrella that fits into a rod holder to provide shade in the cockpit for picnics, etc.
She's been a great cruising and fishing vessel for us, and will be for someone else.
