OBX Fun-n-Fish - - - 12 Apr 06
Marti arrived at Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) International Airport last night and was greeted by the Admiral and I . . . I am that very handsome good looking guy behind the camera
We leave for the OBX Friday morning with a stop to fish stripers on Chesapeake Bay with B_Faithful (Greg) and UnDaunted (Mike G).
For those of you who do not know Marti, he is from Holland, a regular poster on THT,and he met THTers in Texas and Florida last year as well as participating in last year's Fun-n-Fish at the OBX.

Will youe fishing out of OI next week? Near the point I guess?
Alan
Hi Allen
We have three days work on the boat so we hope to be fishing at the end of next week . . . yup, the point is always a good starting point . . . will be following the charter fleet out of Pirates Cove
We will be staying at Buckaneer's Village and my boat is docked at Pirate's Cove, Dock C . . . hidden by all of the bigger boats
I was there two weeks ago. The OI fleet and the Hatteras fleet blend together alot. One group runs north and the other group runs south. I never made it all the way to the point but I should have on my third day out. We were about 10 miles south of it getting skunked and the Hatteras guys were all moving that way. I should have stayed with them but I was already 40 miles away from home.
Next week I am going to try a new spot (new to me anyway), south of the Rockpile. I don't know what it is called but I have it marked on my chart. Must be some rock structure on the 90 line. Good temp. breaks there. Godspeed from HI and another charter that runs from Ocrocoke have been hitting the YFT heavy there on certain days. I hear the Ocrocoke charter brought in 1500 lbs. of tuna in two days late last week.
Gus, this is great news knowing you and Marti will be getting into the local area soon..
Is Cecile still staying back in Canada this year? I seem to remember you saying she would.. Please pass on our best to her..
Tell Marti he had better of brought some of that wonderful Dutch cheese we munched on last year!
I also haven't forgotten my promise to being you a big ole Texas style BBQ brisket.. You'll be eating sandwiches for days!

You guys better head down here soon, global warming has shown her ugly head, the gulf stream is now straight east of OI about 25 miles, plenty of fingers and good temp breaks to fish on. Amazing! You can't beat it, no need to run to the point now, just go east till you find fishable water. All the charters are runnin to the point, and hauling back tuna by the boatload, yellowfin to 90 lbs, and even bigeye BFT hookups still. Plus, yesterday at OI, the Skirtchaser caught 2 smaller 20 lb Dolphin and released a Blue Marlin at 200 Lbs, Pirate's Cove today reported a BM release at a guestimated 500 Lb'er. Strong start to the summer fishery here...
Get that boat work done, soon so's you guys can go fishin'.
As for me, I'm done with the household chores this spring (grass is planted, mulch is down, house is clean, bathroom is redone, new bushes are in the ground), and now I get to build my hardtop, install my new Icom and plotter, Bottom Paint, Trailer Work, Motor Work, waxing and polishing. Good thing the wife and kids are going to Disney World this week, I'd never get it all done if they were here.
Also, I've got an Ace up my sleeve for the Tuna Grounds this year, and won't hold it too close for those that are interested in running there with me.
20 Days till the OBX rendevous, hope the weather (and fish) hold like this for the event.
Hopefully that beautiful lady is petite or Marti is going to need a helmet to keep from killing himself on my hardtop. (He looks to be a very tall fisherman)
As Undaunted mentioned, I have to head to NJ for Easter in the afternoon on opening day so it will be a half day trip. Therefore we will be confined to fishing the over-crowded Annapolis area. Hopefully the weather will hold out and we will manage a fish or two. I assure you it is not quite the thrill of fishing off of OBX.
Looking forward to seeing you guys.

B Fauithful, we will be out of Sandy Point as well fishing rather than Solomons due to the distance and boat traffic at the ramps (limited # compared to Sandy Pt) down there on opening day.
