Default Tolman Skiff with a Diesel!!!

http://www.backporchboat.org/

I think this will be the first Tolman Skiff built with a Diesel. One more is being built down under...though we have no pictures yet, and the builder isn't as far along.

Steve Why did he put limber's in where he did on that extra piece of 1in plywood? I can't see where they would serve any purpose.

Is that diesel going to be the 1.7 mercruiser or something heavier?

If you look closely it looks like there are a pair of drain holes where the limbers are.

I like the diesel so far. It's got way more power than it seems like it should. It's pretty surprising how well it pushes a 26ft boat. Should be an excellent engine for the Tolman. They seem to get 6mpg no matter what they are in or how you drive them! Congrats on a great selection of power... No my opinion isn't biased! Arlon

Pretty hard to see, but still make's no sence. A garboard plug is needed at the bottom of the "V".

I started an owners/interested parties group specific to the 1.7 diesel on Yahoo. Only a few members so far but all of own boats with 1.7 DTI engines. There is a ton of info anyone owning one might want to know. Join us if interested. We would love to hear specifics of the 1.7 in your application. Arlon

My guess would be that since there are fillets on both the stringer and the transom, against the bottom planking, He just clipped out the whole corner so that the doubler would fit nice and tight against the transom. I will bet that he beveled away the back edges of the doubler for the same reason.
