i forgot which fellow trophy owner it was that removed the decals from his trophy but i liked the idea as mine were starting to look a little worn. i also just finished the the new top last weekend, all aluminum and painted blue.
i think i will add a blue stripe down the side to match the top.
Guess What?? I got a Fever.. And the only prescription is.. MORE COWBELL!

definately! i only have the boat back in the states from mexico for a short time and the only aluminum the local metal shop had was square tubing.......i think it gives the boat an industrial look.
the welder did a great job and it is solid as a rock and light as a feather.
I would have had slanted the holders a few degrees
probley be much easier to get the rods off when you need to
if i would have used the round tubing i definately would have slanted them a bit but with the square tubing i did not feel confident with the amount of weld that would be holding the rod holder in place. these are welded all the way around the entire holder and will never come off. last year i had my favorite rig sind to the bottom when when i hit one wave too many that day and the holder broke off my old top and fell into the ocean. my old top was built in mexico for $275.00 and was made out of galvanized steel tube. attached is a pic of the old top.
yes, those are rust stains. not so much from the top but from the non-stainless bolts they used. the new top is all aluminum with stainless steel bolts.
i was able to wet sand and buff the rust stains off so no real harm done, but i couldnt wait to get that thing off the boat. the rod and reel falling into the ocean was the last straw..........i guess for less than $300.00 i cant complain too much, it did provide good shade. temperatures where i fish are at or above 100 degrees 4 months of the year.
the launching situation in where i fish is definately different. high tides are 18-20 verical feet and with a gently sloping bottom in the area, low tide is about half a mile from high tide. no launch ramps in the area so they have been launching boats with these "giraffe milkers" for 50 years now.
the old top looks like a poker table at 100 degrees i would sit under it though...no question.
the blue one looks quite a bit stronger and better looking.
cheers
Geeez stop riding the guy, after all "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"..........Ric , if it works for you then I guess thats all that matters. I am curious though, why is it No one around there works in round aluminum/stainless???

if i would have taken the time i probably could have found someone with round aluminum or stainless. i went to the metal supply shop and that is what they had so i pictured what it would look like in head and figured what the hell, it will probably be the only top out there that looks like that. looks were not my primary goal but i did want it to look better than the last one and i wanted it to be solid. the only thing i would have liked better about the round tubing is it would be easier to clean.
i dont mind if people ride me a little over the top.....that is why i posted pics, to get input. the main thing is i will keep catching just as many fish with this top as with any other
