Random Quote: Dad, is there a depth finder on this boat? Why is the water tan?
I remember as a kid, paddling a canoe through the fingers off the Waccamaw river catching those things w/ a dip net and putting them in a 5 gal bucket. I also remember one we were trying to get off a limb jump right into the canoe inbetween the two of us. Needless to say, we jumped out to the bank and somehow got the canoe turned over to get that thing out so we could get back in.
Out of all the ones I have seen and caught in my life, that one may be the biggest I've seen in the wild. Seen some bigger ones in captivity, but that is one dam big cottonmouth!!!!!!
You don't play with those sucker's. They don't back down and they can bite you under water.
I had one once that fell out of an old tire I picked up. I was cleaning up my property. The wife I had at that time was hard of hearing. I kept hollering for her to bring the shotgun down to where I was. She couldn't understand me, until I hollerd SNAKE!
Yeow! Hadn't thought about those guys much. And they have a NASTY disposition. How about gators? I imagine there are a few of those guys who have been displaced and in a foul mood these days. And ants, and scorpions, and rats, and .................

We saw a cottonmouth about that size the last time we visited the Biltmore mansion in NC. There is a large pond about a half-mile below the house and that sucker was right in the trail that follows the shoreline.
The above posters are correct; those cottonmouths are mean as heck and you don't want to mess with one, period. And, when you see one big adult there is probably a mate nearby that is just as nasty.
Just seeing them makes me cringe, last year while working in the pan handle of fla there were snakes everywhere some big like that but i didnt know what kinda snakes they were now i know

critters like that are exactly why I keep my 9mm on my belt at all times when wandering around the woods & other area's that they frequent......shot quite a few over the years.
I found 3 snakes in my house in Slidell. I hate snakes. None were as big as those, but they all got the business end of a shovel. I didn't care if I broke the tile in my foyer, I hate snakes. I'm not sure what the ones in my house were, I didn't ask, I just whacked them to a pulp.
We have been seeing lots of gators in our canals off of Lake Ponchartrain. Very unusual to see them in the brackish water, but it makes sense that they were displaced. Must have been quite a ride for those gators.
