Nice picture, but we have a couple of these swiming around right here in Atlanta. Pretty sure they will not let us stand on them though...
I do have a question about your choice of tackle. The rod seems a little light but I understand the need to downsize in odrer to match the size of your bait. Do you use plankton for these big guys? Bet it is tough to keep it on the hook. When you do hook up I bet the the fish just kinda "sucks" it in, not a hard strike. How's the fight on the light rod? Shouldn't there be somebody ready with a gaff after you have gotten it that close?
Good job on the pictures. Hope the old fella is back next year for you!
This youngster..about 35 feet ,,i honestly feels remembers us!!He absolutely will not stay with some boats (,He frequents a popular wreck off venice these months)and will sit with us a long time!! As far as tackle..this guy is always covered with A.Js and cobia along with lots of other fish..
I used to work for a company called Oceaneering and a lot of there employees are ex commercial divers....
One of the guys there used to work on a oil platform in the Indian Ocean and one day when he was off shift a whale shark was swimming around the platform...he put on his snorkeling stuff and jumped in the water with the whale shark and a friend of his who happened to be a underwater photographer.....He said he swam with the shark for 30 minutes....the photos of him be pulled around by the whale shark were some of the greatest photos I have ever seen....I would image that there arent too many people in the world that would have experienced anything like that......along with the photos to prove it......

I saw one when I was spearfisihing in Mexico, it didn't let me get too close though. Mostly, I was just glad it wasn't a tiger shark.
There was a guy in Tahiti that had a few whale sharks as semi-pets. He fed them scraps of fish, and they became conditioned to swim up to him with their mouths agape. Cool stuff. chip.
I had to look twice. I had an Aunt that looked just like that when she was swimming! She would jump from the floating dock, and we'd get nose bleeds from the rapid rise. Nice picture though.
