We had a benefit tournament for a local who got injured and the winner caught this!!
They hooked up at 1:04 PM and got to the dock at 7:45 pm
A 5 hour fight and then had to tow it in along side the boat.
It was only about a 28' boat
Aloha, Hirize
How could you kill such a fish? Some people just have no respect for large gamefish. Id rather release it and feel good knowing I let it go alive. Why cant there be more catch and release tournaments....
Catching a 500 lb fish in Kona is not a big deal to the locals.
A 1200 fish is big, even in Kona and I suspect most Captain's would bring her to the dock. It is difficult to estimate the difference of a fish greater than 1000lbs without a girth measurement

I am a big proponent of catch and release, but a 1200 lb marlin is near the end of his life cycle and is probably having problems getting his hands on some Viagra. There comes a time when it is time to harvest IMHO.
