Random Quote: The Liver is Evil.....It Must Be Punished!
The marina where we keep our boat caught fire yesterday. The marina had a covered roof and about 50 slips. the boats were mostly fiberglass a few older wooden boats, there was one Al. 28 ft cat that sat on the outside slip that was not covered along with a 56 Krogen. I was notified at 7:25 that there was smoke coming from a corner of the marina, since I was on my way to work I was at the marina prior to the first fire truck or about 5 minutes after I received the call. my thought was that i would help move boats off the dock in case the fire spread. when I arrived the entire marina and every boat in it was total engulfed in fire. Witnesses said the fire orginated on a boat just a few slips from the parking lot.... and the entire marina was on fire iin just a few minutes.... Every boat in the marina was burned to the waterline and sank.... The marina did look like the one in the background on the first picture, the other pictures show what was left after just a few hours, the last picture is of a 28 ft AL. cat that had a pilot house. Interesting enough the boat was tied on the starboard side (closest to the fire) yet the port is melted to the waterline..... I'll try to post more pictures of the actual fire.... The most amazing thing was that the within 10 minutes of starting the entire marina and every boat was burning.... My wife and I watched our boat burn to the water and sink it was very sad, but pales whene compared to what the gulf coast is experiencing...
I have a view from browns point wa. that looks past point defiance and the Gig harbor entrance and I saw the smoke from that fire when I got up. It was overcast and I actually thought it was just a squall moving through until I heard the news on the radio.
No loss of life or serious injury thank God. Wish the same could be said for the Gulf coast--boats can be replaced!
To sit there and lose your boat and think that your situation pales compared to the people in the gulf area You sir have great compassion for your fellow man glad to be associated with people like yourself I hope your ins does the right thing for you and your fellow boaters up there
It is a tragic loss......yet you seem calm and collected.......we should all be as level headed as you seem to be. Best of luck in getting your situation improved.
Sorry to hear about your loss. That fire must have moved very quickly. It was even hot enough to melt down an aluminum boat. But like you said it is replaceable and you still have a roof over your head and cloths on your back. Nothing like those poor people in the South. Let us konw how you make out with the insurance claim.
Guess I didn't read your original post well enough--sorry to hear about your boat. All's not bad--I'm sure you're insured, everyone's safe, and you live in Gig Harbor, one of the best boating communities on earth!!
