Default New First Mate!

Must have lost my head because I came home with a new dog from the shelter last week. I had no intention of doing so. My 7 YO visits every week and this time they took me. Found this beautiful 1 Y.O. Sherpard who came home with us. He loves the boat (could've been a deal breaker) and he is a wonderful dog. Can't believe he was left at the shelter. He was only there 2 days. His family had to move and couldn't take him where they were going.

Good for you - beautiful dog, "smiling wife" approval, and a new SCOUT - it don't get any better than that!

Hmmmmmmmmm ... how 'bout "Scout" as a name for the new pup?

ENJOY - it is HARD to go to a shelter and not bring a dog home!

Regards,

Looks happy on your boat...... congrats!

If we had to make a change in our life and the dog could not be accommodated....... we would not go..... or move..... or whatever.

That's great and thanks for giving me a smile with that news..

He looks very happy.

I have a total soft spot in my heart for those abondoned, sheltered and stray animals - My dog and cat (Dutch and Shiner) were both strays and Dutch literall waked up to me, severely emaciated and well, the rest is history..

Don't get me wrong though, PETA still sucks..

Great choice to go to a shelter, that is where I got my Golden, he has been the best dog I have ever had. It's almost like they are appreciative for the rescue. What a deal, both wife and dog enjoying the boat, looking forward to more photos in future*

what a great find. we have a dog that we think is a cross between a poodle and a cocker, showed up at our house in the spring of 95', about a year old at the time. He was freshly groomed and already house broke. been hanging around ever since. He doesn't care for the water too much, so we never took him out on the boat, until last summer, now he absolutely loves it.

Nothing better than a dog that's been rescued. I found my Pointer mix in a rainstorm on my front lawn 9yrs ago. She was only 3 months old and sick. Turned out to be the best dog I ever had. Only problem is since she was out in the rain for days, she doesn't like to go near the water.

Doesn't it feel good. Instead of buying a over priced puppy and promoting the puppy mill industry. You found a dog that needed you and your family.

I garauntee his old family misses him very much. A dog that personable had to come from some where that cared. I bet they would be happy to see he has found such a good home. Don't be to harse on his old family, they had the courage to bring him to the shelter, lots of people just drop'em off or abandone them. They atleast done what they could.

"Elmo the Boat Dog" came from a similar situation. When he was a puppy his first family allowed the children to be very cruel to him. The father in his second family dognapped him from the first, they treated him very well and spoiled him terribly. It was unfortunate that after having Elmo 8 years, due to a change in job conditions, they were unable to keep Elmo. Just about that time I had lost my big dog Daphne, and I was hurting something terrible. So as a gesture of kindness Elmo's family was going to "let" me pet sit him until they could find a home for him. Long story short, Elmo's been here for close to two years. His family still comes visit him when they can, and amazing as it seems he remembers them very well, loves the visits.

That doesn't even get close to the stories I could tell about the two cats. Barncat and Sam both of them were rescues, both of them saw the easy pickins around here and chose to stay.

Twenty Nine,

I hear what you are saying but I have to say, NO matter what my situation unless forced to choose between dog and a human, that dog would have went where ever I was going or I wouldn't go. My lab is one of my children and all three kids adore him. As he gets older he gets more perks. I could never leave him behind even if I had to move.

Could not! Would not!

Beautiful Dog,,I am glad you rescued him,,and I like some others have said,,would never leave my Dogs behind,,we have 3 that we rescued,,and over the years,,we have had a lot of them and found homes for the ones that we could not keep-

Best Dog you will ever have in your lifetime is the ones that you rescue--

By the way,,all of our Dogs came from beside the highway,,left to starve in the middle of nowhere,Mollie our Black Lab,,mixed of course,,Spikey,,,mixed walker hound, and Bailey full blooded Golden Retriever, we found his family but they refused to take him back-It was their loss, and our gain,,he has made a wonderful addition to our family-

Tight lines all-
