Heard a report last night that 1/3 of the Chesapeake bay is dead. You must have caught those delish looking crabs in the living part!
Nice catch!

I read about that today and you may be right. Fishing this year is better than any in the past. Maybe this means the only living part of the bay is north of the bay bridge and all the fish are stacked up for that reason? That could really be why the fishing is so good...as for the crabbing its been great for the last two years. When the bay dies I have heard stories of the crabs actually climbing out of the water onto the ground looking for oxygen
Looks like my idea of a great weekend as well. Unfortunately, the oxygen level is so low in my river now the crabs are dying in the pots. With any luck the nettles will not be able to survive either.
My neighbor gave us a few dozen steamed crabs Sunday. We put them to good use.
I have lived on the bay (a nasty creek that feeds the bay) for 9 years now and i have actually seen the crabs crawl out of the water once. It was really a sight. The whole ordeal ended in a fairly significant fish kill. As i remember, it was a very hot summer with little rain! Sound familiar?
I had my first crabs of the year last weekend. Crabbed over on crab alley (Thompsons Creek). they were good and sweet. Not as nice looking as yours though

Blue crabs cooked in Old Bay. One of my favorite meals that I've only had a couple times and haven't been able to get in years. Those pics of the table with all the empty crab shells reminds me of a restaurant I ate at just outside of Ocean City Maryland called "Hoopers".
Man I'm living in the wrong place.

I'm still drooling over the pics of those crabs. I'm going to Ocean City next Friday with the kids. Maryland is one of my choices for retirement. Your pics make me want to move now.
Capt. Kevin - So it is official, your wife has crabs...

that hasn't happened to me yet, I'm on Myer Creek, near you according to BruceW. What creek are you on? My crabs are pretty lively as of last weekend, I'll see what happens when I get there today. I did have a weird hairy green slime growing on top of my oyster loats last weekend...
I've been thinking of getting a dissolved oxygen tester just to see what the numbers are. I know the DEQ tests the water every so often out in the Corrotoman River.
Back on subject, LIFE IS GOOD!!! ... bugging out of work a little early, taking another sea kayak down to the river for a laid back weekend... let the good times roll...
Vin, I must say, you sure don't look like the typical trot-liner w/ the 36'er sporting trip 275's!
