Down here where we have a lot of Dry Storage (I do), everytime the boat goes in they do the plug like that except they keep the boat high enough to stand. Every time it comes out they take out the plug, flush the engines and rinse the hull while on the lift. The boat then goes into the racks, usually on the same day or weekend. It's great! I am sure there have been accidents but not likely from mechanical failure, most likely from operator/communication error.
