Default George Luzier 1971 26 CC rebuild

My farther and i just started a new project. We are not new to this, in the past we have reastored 4 boats from the hull up. Two Bertram 31's, aquasport 222 and a 56 foot Huckins.

New to the THT but have been lurking for quite sometime. Name is Jeremy and this in our project.

George Luzier is a wooden boat builder out of sarasota. This boat was the first of this model he built, and there are only 4 others. This boat was the boat that the 26 foot Boca Grand was modeled after.

It has been in service as charter boat for around 25 years. Fishing for grouper off of sarasota, or down in Boca Grand fishing for tarpon like she was designed to do.

Before we handed it over to the boat yard i striped the whole inside of the boat out. Floors, CC, motor, wiring, shaft, prop, and tabs.

These are the only pics i have of it at this point will be taking some more soon. sorry for the crapy cellphone pics. the boat yard that is doing the work has lots on file.

Flipped with bottom paint striped. Very little to no rot for a boat that is almost twice as old as my and worked hard. talking to George he said that we will be putting the 9th motor in the boat.

New fasteners on everything that will be in the water.

Pugs sanded down getting ready for dynal cloth.

Florida -

I was at Sneads last week and saw your boat in the shed at that time. Very nice lines on it. When you get tired of working on her and want to sell it, let me know.

Thanks chris, I think this boat will be in the family for a long time to come.

Well just went to the boat yard. Took some picks of two Boca Grands. The first boat is the owner of the yard personal boat. The yard added 3 feet to the stern of the boat, he also re-powered it with a 315 Yannmar. The second boat is one that my granddad use to own. these are just pics to give you an idea what the boat will look like when finished.

Boca Grande 26

you can see where they add the extra 3 feet.

One more Boca Grande

Ok so now on to progress pics. The wetness is from spraying it down with fresh water. We are trying to get all of the salt out of the wood.

as you can tell it has come a long way in a couple of days. all is left is to epoxy and dynal.

we will be filling these exhaust holes and making new ones.

We filled in the built in trim tabs. Will be using transom mounded tabs to give us a bit more running surface.

Originally the Boat was a side console, but the last owner made it a center. We are going back the the original side.

The re-power.

Here are a few from inside the hull. first pic is the only real bad spot of rot that was replaced. The other two are pics of the original live well. They were two boxs with holes in the bottom of the boat with no pumps. We filled the holes and put new wood over the holes.

Last pic is of all the old brass fasteners.

I work in Palmetto (live in Bradenton) so I'll have to get over to Sneads tomorrow. One of the guys I work with has kin at Sneads so we'll likely come together. I am familiar with the other 2 Luzier's you posted. Both are great boats.

A new refurb thread. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve or the night before a fishing trip. This is gonna be sweet daddy!

As an aside, that looks like a really cool boatyard. All kinds of cool old stuff hanging around.

Thanks for sharing!

This is a good time to pull the lines off of that hull. Do you have a pic of her in the water?

This yard has been around for years, and will hopefully be around for years to come. I can get lost in the stuff that have stored here.

We will be floating the boat after the dynal layer, to see where it will sit in the water. it will be receiving a new hull coat and and new name.

Thanks man i have been watching your build, your doing amazing work can't wait to see it finished.

Well on to some more pictures. We finished fixing all the rotten places, let it sit in the hot sun to dry it out. After that we put two coats of very thin epoxy that soaks in to the wood. then went over the whole boat with a thin layer of filling epoxy. When then started sanding on monday, while we were sanding we noticed some more rotting areas in the bow. we dug out the rot and filled with epoxy. So we should be laying cloth tomorrow, Fiberglass on the keel and sling points, the rest will be the dynal.

pretty, pretty boat. Looks like you're taking the time to do the high-quality restoration she deserves, good on you. Not familiar with "dynal" - can someone take a minute to explain? Thx
