its pretty sweet....lots of you guys with the big center consoles get all horned up with 900 horsepower on a planning hull making that kind of speed.... and here we are with semi displacement hull (with big HP however) making the same kind of speeds as your big outboards and a planning hull....!!!

I wonder if the boat in the last pic has PFDs aboard for everyone?

I wonder how many lobsters did that boat catch the last time it went out before the race.

I have a friend named Beau that would race every year. Can't remember what his boats were called but I had fun going through his photo albums. He would work off his boats to.

Actually, no. Just a relatively new boater that's still paranoid about on-water inspections.

The lobster boat races are supposed to be for working lobster boats. I really don't think Foolish Pleasure is a working boat, not with a drag race engine. It may qualify in a special unlimited group, but it defeats the purpose of the race.

I believe Andy Gove (Uncles UFO) has expressed this same view. The last I heard he hauls his full 800 trap limit in Uncles UFO, and has won many races in it also.

Almost scary to see those lobstah boats screaming across the Bay!!

UFO is definitely the king......and Maine's winter automatically disqualifies us from "ruling"

I hope I have the guy correct, with Uncle's UFO, thought it was by a different name. I know I ended up talking with him because we had a MACK E9 900HP in a H&H 40 we had. I believe that was his base engine, guy was great to talk too, very knowledgable and funny said he retired now. That he was only like working 800 traps 5-6 days a week rather than 1200 or something 7 days a week. Something like that, good to talk to people that really love what they do. Sadly we burnt up our MACK E9. Happy to be running my 26 General Marine now with 200HP volvo burning 6GPH...

That sounds like Uncle Andrew, as everyone in Stonington knows him. The last I heard, he had a Mack E9 in Uncle's UFO. Those 900 horses certainly are lively.

I had the pleasure if riding on Uncle's UFO once. He ran us out to Isle au Haut. We sure were moving along, and he didn't have it anywhere near opened up.

900 (cough, cough) horses.

UFO is my favorite as well because it's a working boat. I don't have anything against boats like the Pleasure, but as Andy Gove said they should have their own class (and now do).

I'd like to see some of the Chesapeake watermen take a few of their boats to Maine & see who gets some serious whoop a$$. HP fo HP, my money is on the hard chined Chesapeake deadrise.

I see this race going in the same direction as NASCAR, pretty soon some one is going to get a Cigarette Hull put a very light weight and low profile pilot house and a couple of 1400 hp blown alcohol injected inboards and do 90 mph and then all the fun is lost to the very few with very deep pockets and large ego, like the America's Cup that was for a long time a real race now is disputed between two multi million dollar boats.
