Random Quote: A boat is a mistress that needs constant attention.
Savannah has had the best medical care. Got bit on the snout by a snake in her first year. $800 and human anti-venom later, she was fine. For the last few years, she has been on Previcox, Dasaquin and pepcid for all the bodily ailments. When she walks, if you straddle her and feel her hips as she walks, it is sickening as you can feel the bones clicking in and out of socket. I feel for her.
Anyone else's Lab use the walls for pillows? Jack doesn't like to lay flat on the ground... he prefers to have his head propped up and will use any wall he can find. I have to clean the little spots of dirt all over my walls every week. He's a nut... here he is with his wall pillow....
I'm really having a lot of fun seeing the pics and reading the stories, thanks to all and the OP. Brings back a lot of memories and I hope more to come with my 14 year old male, Atlas. Other than being a very picky eater now (he always was), I think he's healthy as a horse, thinner but healthy. I mean, now we have to make him hot dogs and chicken and pasta, whatever it takes for a meal. He'll sleep till noon, but i guess at what, 90'ish, I would too. I always tried to be careful of their hips, probably my biggest fear. I think the best advice I ever got for you puppies is...let them sleep when they're tired. don't make the dog run on the beach as much as you want to. when they drop, its cuz they're beat. basically don't over do it with them until at least 2 years old. I guess some of dysplasia is genetic and some can be brought on. I don't know too much about it other than that. Just thankful that the mom's (Andi) hips were rated good and Atlas's rated excellent. I was lucky for their companionship and just tried to do right by them. ok, so now that we have the pics, do we start a new thread of funny lab stories? cuz i have a few....
BTW, Love the names (go get 'em Walt). one of my pups went to a lifetime buddy of mine, an MMA engineer, the only black female we had. Her name: DIESEL!

yes, kinda. when i bread Andi, the breeder said the 'stud''s mom would sleep in laundry baskets and some of his pups do too, leftover from the grandmother. I love that, the stud. $500 and guaranteed 2 living pups or a free repeat performance (does she owe me if we had 9?). I'm like, umm, huh? I digress, anyway, every once in a while, i catch my pup sleeping in a laundry basket or curled up in the shower stall. funny cuz at 14 he's not really a pup anymore, shhhhh, dont tell him...
Missy, when she was hit,she took it all to the head. Quick action from the vet saved her. This happen at 6:30 pm on a Sunday. One phone call from the house and a 10 min drive, the Vet was waiting on us at her office.
My daughter works for these people. I would say some of the best Vets around. true animal lovers. Once my daughter finishes school come May of next year, she will be practicing at that same office.
Thelma (my 7-1/2 year old golden) feels it is absolutely necessary to dunk one paw in her dish every time she takes a drink, started when she was 8 weeks old.. The only thing that stops her is I use the raised dish 'tables' for her...
Does anyone else's take an extra mouthful of water when drinking then walk away from the bowl and dribble it all over the house?
I think it's a prerequisite of the breed.
Here's our Gunner:
Right before we got him, about 6 weeks old.
4 months here
Early this year at Pike's Peak. He leaves his snot all over the inside of the window, I think this is also a prerec.
Looking back at home on a move.
He's a super car rider. He'll fidgit for a bit then sleep as long as you're moving. For 5 or 6 hour stretches.
We don't have enough pictures of him, but it's amazing that when you get a dog and raise him or her, you start to realize that dogs have facial expressions and emotions, as well as their own little ticks. He'll smack his jowls annoyingly when it's time to get up in the morning, and when we take him to the beach he is always sure to swallow enough salt water to woof his cookies half a dozen times.
He's training very very well and I'm thinking will make a wonderful retriever when the ducks move in.
Hooper, is that a turd in your mouth in the first pic? We just realized that we have been mistaken about Savannahs age. She will be 14 in February, not 13.
And Savannah just finished her Frosty Paw's(AKA doggie crack) that she gets every night. At her age, I will give her anything she wants. Around 6PM every night, she starts going crazy needing her fix.
