Fall Projects...Underwater Lights & BootStripe
Well it was that time of year again. Needed to haul out the boat for some zincs and a check on the bottom paint. I always like to make sure when the boat is on the hard that I get as much done as possible. This time the to do list required that I source a yard that would allow the boat to be under cover so paint work could be done among a few other things.
Here was the to do list:
Touch Up Bottom Paint (18 months on Micron Extra)
New Zincs (Only get 6-8 months and they are toast)
Change Bootstipe Color (Interlux Green to Alex Seal 5151)
Underwater Lights (Ocean LED 2010 Pair)
Weaver Davit Quick Release Bases (Upgraded to NEW style)
Addtl Post Under Swim Step (To support Weaver Hydraulic Davit)
Realign Rudders (1/4" Out to 3/4" In)
The yard allowed us to do all the work ourselves outside of the Bootstripe. They did great work. Sanded the old Forest Green stripe off and put 2 coats Primer followed with 4 coats of Alex Seal 5151. Turned out awesome.
The underwater lights were a straight forward install and went very well. The single thru hull mounting and solid construction of the 2010 was reassuring since they are always under water. Sanded the area well and then used a liberal amount of 4200. 2 Coats of Primocon around the bezel followed by 2 coats of Micron Extra. The lights are just sick. The pic below was in brackish water and I was still stoked about the outcome. Can't wait for an overnighter 50 miles out.
My old man did the support post for the dinghy davit on his own and it turned out perfect as was expected. We had a little flex with the hydraulic davit and wanted to add some support. That should take care of any minor concerns. We also added some very HD davit mounts for the Weaver system. The whole system is pretty slick and when not in use everything can be removed and is out of the way for fishing. Always try to balance the cruising and fishing aspects to keep the wife and kids content.
The rudder adjustment was a 10 min job and the boat felt very smooth on the way home. Before we could feel just a touch of vibration at certain rpms but it was very hard to tell if it was just paranoia or not. On the run home it was smooth so I think it made a difference. I do need to adjust the VDO rudder indicator and Furuno rudder indicator now. I found center on the way home so I can adjust in the slip later.
The rest of the work was pretty self explanatory but needed to be done.
On to the Pics:
