Random Quote: I have nice six pack abs, so nice I keep them well padded.
Oyster season opening, thought you all might be interested in seeing some of the different types of boats that are used. If you're ever on the MS Gulf Coast when the seas on opens, I recommend checking out Pass Christian Harbor. Quite a sight to see all those oyster boats streaming out of the harbor at daylight. Some hard workin' fellas, I guess the fog doesn't help much! The regs are getting more and more strict, I have a feeling this will be a lost occupation before long. This was probably my favorite:
Glad you all are enjoying them. Most of the boats are trailered and launched at the ramp. Not the most seaworthy looking bunch of vessels....some are powered with small two stroke outboards. They all use tongs. The larger boats all have spots at the harbor. Our state authorities monitor the reefs constantly and will open and close them depending on rainfall, runoff, bacteria levels. I hope these guys are getting a decent price, they sure seem to be earning it.
I'll try and get some pics of some of the smaller ones. The only reason I stopped this morning is because I thought the fog would make some cool pics.
Edit: The boat in pic number three is one of the nicer trailer boats.
Never ceases to amaze me some of the boats those guys go out in. I couldn't believe how many boats were out yesterday. Every fisherman from FL panhandle to Hopedale must be oystering off the Pass these days.
That is one of a series of photos that I took at Tylers Beach boatramp in Rushmere, Virginia. I uploaded the photos to Wikimedia Commons and designated them as being in the public domain. I am now seeing those photos all over the place. The photos have been used in various educational websites. One of the photos even appeared on the cover of a supplement in our local newspaper. I would encourage anyone to take photos of local landmarks and upload them to Wikimedia Commons < http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page >.

That's great that you "donated" those pics to the public. I bet a lot of students will get good use out of them.

I can't get the link to your Oyster boats photo album to open and I didn't see them on your website
can you direct me to the album ?
Sorry 'bout that, I did some rearranging. If you go to my homepage, you'll find all the oysterin' pics scattered through the "new stuff" and "new camera, new lense" galleries.
