Here's a pic of a nuclear sub that escorted our ferry out of New London Harbor a couple of years ago. We were side-by-side for about 5 miles as we exited the river. If you zoom into the conning tower, you'll glimpse the $1500 Raytheon Radar that's used to navigate this multibillion dollar sub...
FYI for everyone.
Those Furuno's, Raytheon's and Raymarine's are only a backup for the Sub's actual radar. Radar is only one part of a few other inputs that go into her navigation system.

My host country has ordered 6 russian Kilo class attack submarine (also named black hole) to face the 8 ones China has. Mainly for territory claims over archipelagos. China claims all islands all along Vietnam down up to Malaysia and Philippines belong to them duh!
Good to see that Vietnam is not afraid to build up against giant Chinese neighbor.
I do not think I will take any picture if I see anyone. I will just switch off the sounder to show I am friendly
A little over two years ago (March 2008), I was lucky enough to be invited to spend 24 hours aboard the new USS North Carolina, a nuclear attack submarine. It had not been commissioned at that time (that happened in May 2008); we did a dive to 800 feet. Several journalists (I was a television news director at that time) were on board. I took a number of pictures (all had to be "cleared" before we could leave the boat). The "angles and dangles" maneuver was pretty cool. Very steep ascent (not to the surface), and a steep descent...that's what is known as "angles and dangles". A great experience for me. (Didn't catch one...no even one...fish, though. The hamburgers, known as sliders, in the Tar Heel Grill, were fabulous).

Another reason is so that anyone sitting offshore (or a satellite) monitoring the electromagnetic spectrum, will detect the electronic signature of a commercial/pleasure craft.

I would straight shoot him the Bird whos holding the .50Cal....
How do they have a right to AIM and HOLD their finger on the trigger??? This doesnt make any sense.
What gives them the right is defending our National Security. He/they don't know who you are or what your intentions are. They know who they themselves are and what they are doing. You make a wrong move, you'll find out how good your PFD's are.
"Hello Mr.Insurance man?" "Yea, my boat sunk today. Seems that .50 cal holes caused a massive water leak, and then the tank exploded..."
