Default Swordfish/Flying fish

Pictures from last Saturday night. Played with the pics a little to see what I could make them look like.

Flyer - one of his brothers hit me in the face at 28 knots on the way out to fish 2 Thursdays ago(3rd time that has happened in my career)

Very nice pictures. That picture of the flyin fish is beautiful.

Speaking of flying fish hitting you. I was running offshore one time and my buddy got hit in the nads by a bruiser that weighed about 3lb's. At that point he went in the fetal position and I was dieing laughing. It was a good time. After that happen I hear on the radio every once and I while I hear this happening on other boats. I crack up every time.

we were clipping along about 35 in a 38' intrepid one time. Slick as glass, kings jumping everywhere. a 15 lber hit the windshield right between me and another guy who were riding on the bow. I am sure those teeth would not have been fun at that speed.

Slow night swordfishing. We had a few bites but sure they were sharks. This one hit and we thought he never hooked up. Never pulled line and never fought. We reeled up to check the bait and just thought it was slightly heavier than normal but did not know he was on until we saw him. I led him to the side of the boat like a dog on a leash, grabbed the bill, removed the hook, quick pic and he was gone. Very anti-climactic. Another boat was out also and said he got 3 bites and 1 fish also.

Flyers have it out for me. 2 in 1 year and then this one. Haven't been hit in a while. Kinda scary thinking of a kingfish jumping in the boat.

FYI, this one was probably barely legal, 47" lower jaw to fork, but there is no way I am killing a fish of that size. IMO, the legal size for killing a sword should be at whatever length the average sword is 100 lbs.

How far out of Jax do you need to be to get into swords?

This one was out of St. Augustine approx 75 miles SSE. I moved 4 times that night trying to find a bite everywhere from 1400'-800'. Didn't mean to drift into such shallow water and we got sharked up when we did. Ended up catching the fish in 1350 which seems to be our best depth. I envy the south Florida guys with the short runs where they can be back home and in bed in time for work the next morning.

Congrats to you Auguste on your boat decision. Didn't I tell you before that my uncles name was Auguste also? Pronounced "Ah-goost". My grandfather was french and of course so was his brother Auguste.

Thanks. I think I took over 20 pics to finally get that one. I enhanced it a bit using Picasa.

...how about us left coast players? Swording in our area involves a min. of 130 miles and the whole weekend to make the trip worth it. I like your attitude bout releasing the pups even @ legal. Good job!

130 miles would make it un-doable here. As you know, hard to get a boat with that range and still be able to afford it. My boat will do it but man that is a long ways. As far as killing pups, I, personally, would be embarassed to take my picture showing a 45 lb swordfish. That's just me. Neither my ego nor my stomach will force me to kill fish like that. If others want to kill a small legal fish, that is their choice but I just can't do it. Because the fish above was hooked outside in, he was bleeding a little but the blood was not coming from the gills so I hope he was fine.
