OK, So I thought I would post up some pics of AK this year with the admiral. I dont know how to manage the pics so they are in a column??? Any how
If you havent been to AK, GO, dont wait, Its an awesome destination, and puts you in touch with Nature like few other places can. Dont wait till your blue haired, get it done. There are many great destinations, excellent guides, great people.
This was the admirals first trip up (she prefers. . . . . .tropical...locations, usually with a cabana and cocktail waitresses )
Shes a MENACE to the fish I tell you!

Wow, sweet pix how did you go?? Direct fly and find your way, a cruise with planned expeditions, it's the last of the truly untouched places and I'm anxious to lose my way in the beauty that Alaska holds.......I know I don't want to do a cruise, as the admiral would say is guaranteed, I want the exposure and insecurity of the unknown as I think that would make the trip............

I think the Cruise thing is pretty cool, however, it's like being in a hotel. I like to go to a Lodge. Prefferably small ones. This particular place in the photos is only accesible by boat or plane. The small lodge (8 or less people) is more, I dont know, immersive. I have been going up for years. Alaska is a big, big place. You can Fish out of Seward for example, with Andy at Cracker Jack, they do a "long range style" trip where you stay on the boat for a few days, and go to a boat in lodge for a couple of those. Wooden Wheel (the one in the photos) is a small place, only does 8 at a time MAX, run by a husband and wife team.

great pics! AK is on my travel bucket list...waiting a few more years until my youngest is about 12 or so. want her to be prepared for some serious sea kayaking and hiking...along with some fishing, of course!
I agree, that Alaska is a must see for every outdoorsman (or woman). I've been once, took a cruise with the wife and loved it. The scenery is amazing, there's so many things to do and plenty of fish to catch. If you bring the wife, a cruise is great because they don't get bored, cold, etc. and it's a great way to see AK for the 1st time. It's also become very affordable lately, the prices are literally half what we paid in 2007. Pay extra for a balcony, it's worth every penny. Doughnut, glad to hear you like the lodge, that's how I'd like to do my next trip
We did an AK cruise last August. While it was still a cruise, we planned excursions on our own in each port to get away from the tourists. Would do it again in a heartbeat and yes - we splurged on a balcony!

We were fortunate enough to do a Vancouver - Anchorage cruise a few years ago. STB side of the ship with a balcony. It was amazing. We flew into Vancouver, cruised to Anchorage (well, Seward) and stayed a week after the cruise doing whatever we wanted. If you have the time I highly recommend doing both. The Mrs. was very happy with the comforts of the cruise and the ports of call, but I loved the exploring. It's truly a trip of a lifetime. If you think everything is bigger in Texas, wait until you see Alaska.
