And a few other older pics I don't think i've posted. The waterspout shot was taken yesterday afternoon. I was hoping it would come inland towards me to I could get some better shots, but it fizzled.
A B+W version of some pics I posted before.
Ship Island, west tip.
Derelict fishing vessel that was finally sunk on a fishing reef.
Of all my shots, this one is my favorite.....mostly because of the amount of time and effort it took to get it.
No, but the piling shots were for sure. Others are older, probably shot with my longer Sigma.
The last shot was taken with a 400 f5.6 w/1.5 teleconverter. A difficult shot of the oyster boat for sure. It took me weeks of figuring out exactly where to position myself. Here it is sharpened and cleaned up a bit:
I grew up close to Hattiesburg. I didn't get to do much boating as a kid growing up but did have a lake on my home property so I did quite a bit of fresh water fishing.
Jax has more inshore boating - ICW, some flats, St. Johns River. Very good fishing for reds/specks/flounder in these areas and good freshwater fishing further inland in the St. Johns. The Atlantic off Jax has areas of natural hard bottom and small ledges and artificial wrecks in 60-120 feet of water, and good fishing for kings/Spanish closer in to the beach. The Gulf Stream is about 60-70 miles offshore from Jax.
Was your waterspout photo on WLOX the other day, Jason? I really enjoy your pictures and, as mentioned, having spent my whole life here, you really capture the beauty of our home, which isn't easy sometimes. When I get frustrated at the progress of recovery, I just look out toward the Mississippi Sound or back on Bayou Delisle and the Wolf River and it reminds me why we are here.

Sure was! I snapped it on the way home. When I got home I downloaded it real quick and emailed it to Mike Reader, at around 5:45pm. I didn't think there was any way he could get it up for the 6pm news, but he did. I didn't even see it. I figured he'd email me back to let me know he was gonna use it. I found out a few days later when someone asked me about it.
Thanks for the compliments and I agree with you about the beauty of this area. It is a well kept secret in my opinion, and I kinda hope it stays that way.
