Default Whacky But Proven Boat Designs!

Last Saturday a memorial service was held for boat designer Phil Bolger. With almost 700 designs to his credit some made the trip here for the service.

I just got back from Amsterdam where I had a house boat for the week on a canal. I was surprised when I noticed that many of the boats that cruised came by were running fixed outboards with rudders.

He sure came up with some interesting stuff. Years ago I had a subscription to Small Boat Journel?. He put function first. Glitz wasn't even a distant second.

When I went to the memorial a gent from California knew all the vessels, how much time it took to build them and all the boat owners! To say Phil had a cult following is an under statement. He certainly knew his stuff and he was ahead in many ways including energy use.
