Watched it - and I do think that is what he means. While I do not think that it was kept at a fast troll - the boat was kept ahead the whole time while hooked up
IMO, this is a matter of personal preference. I will keep the boat at speed after the hook up - that is the best way to get multiple hook ups (for me, especially at the canyons and usually with the big eyes - and bigger yellowfin) after the bite (whether one on of more) we would then clear the other lines and I would then back off and let the anglers fight the fish -with the boat in neutral and only bump it in an out of gear to keep the lines off the stern (I was fishing an express not a CC or walk around) and then in gear when landing (keeps better control and just walk the fish up the side)
However, as in the video, a number of people keep the boat in gear the entire time - always keeps pressure on the fish - fewer pulled hooks (or chafed-through leaders) - the trade off is it is usually harder on the angler and not as "intimate" a fight. (less feel of the head shakes, circling, give and take, etc.) I believe that this method has a higher landing to hook up percentage.
AGAIN - personal preference (crew experience can also be a factor as to which method) |
