Very nice cb, do you still have it ? Looks like it was sprayed ? (awlgrip or imron) I actually used interlux perfection on mine, wasn't to happy with the results.
Very nice looking boat. I saw it for sale online somewhere. Love the baby blue. I may change mine down the rode from Yellow to baby blue. I spashed mine last night. Put her in her new home.
Those are really cool boats. I had looked at a few in the past but most needed a tremendous amount of work. Tell us a little bit about how she handles seas offshore and are you happy with your power choice (does it work well with that hull, etc?).
i regularly run the boat off shore. I can't say i have ever been in a condition where i felt the boat couldn't handle it. Came home plenty of times in 4-6 really chopy, in 12 foot ground swells, with proper handling she takes it well. I have a yammi 250 on mine, i feel its abit under powered. The only thing the boat doesn't like is drifting in the slop, she can get pretty violent. If you can handle it, it's no big deal.
What does she way ready to fish? I assume the tow with your F150 was only a short distance to the slip. How did that go? Beautiful boat by the way with that sharp entry.

how do think a yamaha 350 would do?
most of the new 28's they make now come with a 315 yanmar.
"pretty violent"...snap roll like a carolina classic?

the yammi 350 would be perfect
the new 28 with the yanmars are nice much lighter then mine, i dont like the idea of a jackshaft i/o, i would prefer the inboard model.
never been on a carolina classic, but it has caused some of the people i brought out to sh!t themselves at times, the wave duration has to be right and that thing will start cookin. normally getting hit broadside by a single wave or wake doesn't do much.
i have noticed most of these boats do not have trim tabs, are they balanced so good they are not needed, and how would the weight of the 350 upset that?.
there was one on ebay but it did not meet his reserve...
here is his photo album,i like this boat alot it has some potential...
I knew it was close to 7K but wasnt really sure. It was all the F150 could handle but I got her back. I also had to come across the Cape May Ferry. Also mine came with trim tabs. I do think the Suzuki 4 stroke 250 has it a little underpowered but that is ok for now. Maybe down the rode I will repower it.

this boat NEEDS TABS, with the one screw and narrow beam she leans on the port underway and is very weight sensitive. If the transom had less dead rise it wouldn't be so sensitive but you would give up ride quality. Just remeber you don't get something for nothing, you have to give up something for something. The boat can be quite wet at times, i don't care what anyone says. Its not the fastest but for under 30 ft its the best damn riding boat i have ever been on, and up here in the north Atlantic that can make or break a boat. This hull is solid, i mean real tough old school epoxy. I had to due some fiberglass repairs and my 4.5 in dewalt was worthless. I have an old 1hp 8 inch grinder that this hull gave a good workout.
i can deal with wet(i have become a master at designing cutains to deal with this),we get wet and we get pounded too,i like what you say about the ride, that is what i want..good ride....
we have a real bad 2-3ft at 2-4 second chop here that just beats the hell out of us,its usually a head sea too....we also have a 2-3 hr run at 25 knots to the stream..so fuel capacity could be an issue..
do you think spray rails would help on these boats?,i put them on my current ride and they did help but i would move them lower and more forward if i had it to do again..

thanks for all your answers
i am actually putting on spray rails, i hope it will work.I am also putting about 15k in to renovate the whole boat. 2-3 footers, this boat will laugh at that, we get that up here in the bay. I can run WOT point the bow down and pull 26 MPH. Now keep in mind i have a carbed 250 yammi that burns 25gph, so i dont do that often, but i had to due to 65 mph winds and lightning earlier this year. Storm snuck me and really didn't want to be there with my 30 ft lightning rod. You can see my boat underway in the post your boat pic topic.
Thanks guys. In the future I hope to put twins on a bracket.
That would be sweet, put another counter DF250 on a full flotation Armstrong bracket on it if it can handle the weight. Would free up the back splashwell and give you a huge pit!
on a serious note i would guess you would still hire a surveyor for this purchase too?
i would , that transom job looks sloppy from the pic. Keep in mind there is one fail spot on these boats. adjacent of the outboard well is a utility box on each side. The hinges originally screwed into the transom cap. After 25 years water seeps in. Now the difficult part is that the glass overlay is so thick and strong you will never know that the wood is wet until you drill.
