His life is falling apart and you can't handle a few F'ed up days of fishing? You might want to reconsider the definition of friend.
You should probably also learn to handle a 23' boat on the trailer by yourself (its really not that tough) or hire a mate so the you don't have to rely people who exist in you life to help you with your boat no matter what is going on in their life. I think you call these people "friends", luckily my friends have a different definition.

Im siding with the jockey on this one. Some people are just inept and incompetent when it comes to interpersonal relationships. This doesnt sound like a "friend who has fallen on hard times". If you are on your 3rd divorce, you are part of the problem. And no matter what divorce you are on, there is no excuse for this type of beahvior. Dude should man-up, act like an adult, and maintain some dignity. He is the one who should reconsider how he treats his "friends".

Thanks, I thought it might be on the Occoquoan since you're in Woodbridge. Was stationed at Quantico many years ago and fished there.
