Anyone got any feedback on how these run at sea?

I guess thats the way the market is now these days. no wife is going to let her husband spend a bunch of money on a boat only for fishing, it must have comfort as well and from the look of these pics riviera seems to have done a good job of fulfilling both roles

Ok, so lets compare the closest three contenders here for a forty-something express/open with at least 4 berths.

Riviera 43 Express with IPS
Viking 42 Open with IPS (not available yet)
Cabo 40 Express with Zeus

How do these compare offshore in 4' seas?

I'm in serious research mode ...

Is the Riviera available with traditional power (non-IPS)? Anyone know how much the 42 Viking is going to sell for and will it be available with non-IPS?

Cabo and Viking might ride a bit better to the Riviera but I dont think are not as comfortable inside and outide, and I mean this for cruising, though they will be better fishing machines
but the Viking should have a three cabin layout so might be close, but you will have to wait about a year to see it for real
the Riv is nicely finish may be not a full blown fishing machine but it like it a lot.
I helmed a 4400 Sport Yacht which has the same hull as the 43 Express and in four foot/five foot head seas at 26 knots it slammed a bit more then expected
still I must admit that if I could afford it I might still have bought it as it had too many features I like...
the Riviera hull to go for is the 48 Express, same used as the 4700 Sport Yacht that is a solid machine indeed

Thanks Poweryacht.

Apparently there are some hull differences between the 4400 and 43 Express;

"I am told the 43 Offshore Express is an adaptation of the company's 4400 Sport Yacht that is also IPS powered and which Trade-a-Boat and yours truly tested on a voyage from the Gold Coast to Fraser Island. Only the new 43 is built the old-fashioned handlaid way using solid GRP bottom and cored sides. The 4400 Sport Yacht, on the other hand, has a resin-infused hull. Resin transfer moulds were used only for components on the 43 such as deck hatches.

There are significant changes dimensionally, however. Being a serious offshore boat means the bow has a lot more flare to shed water and additional freeboard for punching into a headsea. And while the hull is shorter than the 4400, it's actually wider to deliver a more stable platform for anglers and entertainers. The increased wetted surface area back aft also helps the boat jump out of the blocks."

LOWS
  • Not quite as impressive into a headsea as the 48 sister ship
whatever it is not by much, again but it is a fabolous machine and that mezzanine on the aft deck is a seller alone
