Cool! What are your plans for lay up? Are you going to core the hulls and if so,with what? Plans for vacuum bagging or hand lay? Resins to be used?
We are working with Alcan/Baltek on the laminate schedule. Looks like we will be vacuum bagging Airex foam core over several layers of biaxial. We have 5 drums of vinylester resin sitting on the floor waiting for lamination. All glass will be hand laid. The engineer has assured me the weight will be on the mark and strength will not be compromised in any way.
We looked at using Corecell, but it is hard to get and is not as compatible with styrenated resins. Corecell is more commonly used in epoxy construction.
We started laying up the first hull out of the mold today. Sprayed in 15 gallons of HK high definition "Aristo Blue". Then we layed in the skin coat. Tomorrow we will start laying in the 3408 triaxial and 1808 biaxials for structural outer skin.
Well we got all the structural glass in and we started bagging in the core. We are using corecell instead of Airex, since the Airex plant has cutback it's operations like most of the marine industry and I was going to have to wait another 2 weeks. We were able to get the Corecell at a decent price out of Florida.

Reason: want to update progress
Just found the thread and glad to see everything finally comming together. You definately have a winner! Materials and methods are now on par with the best of em. I'm thoroughly convinced that anyone who spends any time on one of the larger cats will walk away sold.
Billy, what matting weight you used of the skin coat? Myself,I think the corecell will work out better in the long run. Any plans to block and back fill were any thru hull fitting will be installed?

I agree he has a winner, but I would say that his materials and methods have ALWAYS been of the highest quality.

She is looking good!
3 oz on the skin coat.
We plan on routing out the core and back filling with epoxy in all of the through hull fittings.
Just curious if I could come by your shop one day when I am at IOP on vacation. Would really like to see what all goes into boat construction.
Never ridden on a cat but from everything I have heard from the guys on CF.com yours is in a world by itself
By the way just curious but where did you learn to build boats and are you an engineer. You sound very technical in your posts
Yeah, swing on by the shop. I'll give you a tour.
The Freeman 33 is pretty special, it will just take a while to convince all of the hard headed monohull guys otherwise. In reality there are only so many ways a mono can be built and all of them have been utilized over and over. The multihull design has just been ventured in to, so I think we have hit the next great stride.
Not necessarily an engineer, just determined and driven. I suppose I have a decent noggin on my shoulders.
Billy,
Got my eye on your thread. Hope things are going well for you. They certainly seem to be. Where are you getting your supplies these days?
Doug Truslow
My daughter and I stopped by your shop Mon night about 7:30 on way to Snapper Jacks...thought ya might be workin' late...looks like alls goin' well...sorry I missed you...
Billy, what your plans for the frame work under the decking? Any wood/epoxy coated there? Looks like she is coming along.
No wood. Everything will be glassed foam core. I know this a full departure from what I was doing, but we had to make a choice and change everything and stick with single resin.
