looks fixed from this picture, pretty fast really
I wonder if it is just a temporary fix to take it to the factory or a complete one....
did you see any signs of damage from the car?
whatever the case very nice boat really, pity for the mishap but happens to everyone sometime or another...
I heard from several people in the Stuart area that Bertram is taking care of the owner and putting him into a 70'. The damaged boat will be repaired and sold with full disclosure of the lamination issue. I'm sure someone on the original post of this yellow Bert has the scoop or can verify.
I talked with Don Jones VP Bertram at the AC Boat show. Yes the 63 has been repaired. It was a simple skin delam; the boat did not take on a drop of water; and no one was every in danger. I know all you so called experts made fact filled statements from the few internet pictures you saw. It will be used as a demo boat for awhile. It had 400 hours on it when it broke. Yes the owner made a deal on a new 70B and he and Bertram are happy. Yes Viking lent the owner a boat; but he made the deal with Bertram. I think Viking did what they could; but they were not going to buy back his 63B. The guy fishing the Viking in a tourny sure had the so called THT experts all pumped up. Bertram stepped up and made the deal in a very short time. It looks like the Legend will continue.

I am no expert but I threw my 2 cents then and it stands now: For $3mm bucks, that "one-off delam" shouldnt happen PERIOD. Yes, Bertram did the right thing after the problem and that should be celebrated. CB - your post makes you sound very arrogant.

for a few more $$ millions planes should not fall, and cars costing 100k+ should stop on there own and take you home automatic when you are drunk
I am defending Bertram NO
it is not a perfect world and s**t happens someday or another to even the most perfect guy outhere
in all this it is fair to say that they handled it well
I remember in Malta we had a 2 year old US build 70ft motor yacht which blistered, the company which is very famous but also respected here said the 5 year hull warranty did not cover osmosis, and for a change he should not have left the boat in the water
after a few months of negotiation the owner got half the payment for the repair....
CB, I have never bumped heads with ya before, I love bertrams as much as anyone here without owning one....
But cut me a break.... There was nothing 'simple' about that...
Like I said you so called experts don't know sheeeeet. I will admit it looked bad, but the boat was fixed in short order and the customer got a new boat out of the deal.
Afish I don't remember what you said and I don't care to review old posts. I can agree with the "nothing simple" comment; but Don Jones said it was a simple delam. As I said it looked bad. My contempt is for the jerks that hide behind screen names and try to come off as experts. Some claim they have "inside" information about Bertram, some wrote pages on what failed based on a few internet pictures. These are the "so called experts"; rattling on like old women. Pure speculation at best trying to be passed of as pure fact.
Venture, some say I am very confident, some say I am arrogant and you can say I am very arrogant. Because I am. I have reached a stage in life where I have heard most of the questions therefore I have most of the answers. Plus I just don't give two cents for most others' opinions. Thanks for your kind words though.
CB I said you "sounded" arrogant, not were arrogant. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. No longer. You are arrogant and given your self prescribed " have most of the answers" and you "just don't give two cents for most others' opinions" I am perplexed as to why you are on this website at all?
I am not an expert on Nautical engineering but I sure as hell can tell you what the value of $3million dollars means to me and most other people on this board. You must be swimming in money, good for you to have that callous of an attitude. I would love to see the expression on your face if you dropped 3 sticks on a boat with 450 hours and a hole in it. I would take a picture and post it in the Photos section.
CB always comes off like an asshole. Never met him, not sure I want to given his manner. Simple delam? Riiiight. Did he try to sell you some oceanfront in Arizona too???

What makes you think that?
I would agree........there is no such thing as a simple delam when you are talking about a hull of that physical size. That "simple"comment insinuates it happens often. Kind of like "simple hull blistering".
Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing Bertram. They are definitely one of the premier boat builders in the US in my opinion. But any one company can make a mistake. Its how they handle the mistake differs them from the others.

Not being an expert on this, I have to ask a couple of questions...
Several posters have attempted to rationalize the hull delamination by pointing out that other high-ticket items aren't perfect. Regardless of the obvious logic flaw this argument represents, I doubt that many forum members know how this kind of problem is controlled on composite automobile components. I know that the majority of composite parts installed on automobiles (even rather inexpensive models) are inspected with X-ray and/or ultrasonic systems. My questions are:
- Would potential flaws that led to the delamination be detectable by the same means as auto component inspection systems? This probably would have been detected on a car fender...
- Are these hulls being inspected in this manner currently, and...
- If Bertram (or any other company) isn't using non-destructive testing techniques, then...why not?
Not trying to be a smart-ass, I am genuinely curious.
I'm sure a few tubes of 5200 and some appropriatly places drywall screws were all that was needed for this simple repair. Maybe a little West system. No way it is going to delam again once that stuff kicks off.
