This is Bo. He is mostly Lab with some trace of pit, or rot. I haven't figured out what yet. The mom was a purebred breeding dog but a neighborhood mix lab got out, and you see the result. He's big for a lab at about 100lbs even. Big round head and jus turned 2 years old Jan 25. I just got the boat so I haven't even got him on it yet. (The smaller dog is my sisters purebred lab also named Bo that is staying w/ us for a little while.)
I'm nervous on getting him on the boat though. It's a 21' CC but I'm worried he will jump out under way or something. Any suggestions or do the dogs pretty much figure it out?

cute pup! i took aboard my friends new dog and Renzo love to bark and bite the water. We first thought it best to bring him on the boat at the dock and get him used to this, then continued underway slowly. we was pretty nuts for a good bit, and did manage to jump out but this was in open quiet water and we wanted him to learn. We did know that he could swim well and even had a LJ on him for good measure. so we let him swim and get tired and followed him chasing ducks and he eventually understood that swimming and jumping takes alot out of him. we had a tough time of it mainly b/c this dog is very sporty and always on and hes a city dog, never sees boats or open water. I am sure others have an easier time where their dog just lies on the deck. Good luck boating your K9
This is our rescue from Aguada, Puerto Rico. The only one out of nine that survived in his litter. The mother was never seen again. She was a chocolate lab. She was obviously knocked up by some sort of pitbull. He is a wonderful dog, great with kids, loves the water, and loves the boat! We ran into a friend who raises guide dogs. She was impressed by his mellow behavior. I was quite nervous raising a pitbull, but she said he showed all the signs of a non aggressive dog. Celebrating his first bday in march, he will probably top out around 60lb. I can't wait until I get a picture of him on the roof of the pilot house this spring as a full grown pooch.

My bone head, Yellow Lab (English). She is the biggest bum you have ever seen. Lays around all day. Gets a little excited on the when the boat comes out but chills out. A good girl all around.
Until she sees a ball or a bird All bets are off then, I have watched her leap off the boat (while on plane ) because a bird flew by. I swear her mission in life is to protect all mankind from the evil birds........

What a bunch of great looking dogs, funny pics and great stories.
This has really been an entertaining thread to me and I look forward to coming back to it every couple of days and seeing the new posts.
I think that for the most part, no matter what breed, whether they were fostered, adopted or raised from a pup, they take on a great amount of personality and behavior from their master and really try to plug into our lives and families.
I've had dogs my whole life and when one dies or has to be put down, I swear each time that I'll never own another. Then within a few months or a few years one comes along, some how or some way and you know its right.
Each one has their own unique personality and place in our hearts. I haven't figured out if its just luck, that they really do get better each time or whether we just get more sentimental and senile as the years pass but I swear each time I get a new dog, its the best one I ever owned!
Hey if you haven't already seen this video, check it out. It's about a serviceman coming home from Iraq and being greeted by his dogs...brought a tear to my eye.
Meet my boy Monte. He is a six year old Chocolate that loves being on the boat. he is a bit too excitable to bring fishing because he wants to retrieve every cast.
Our dog is the same way about birds, and leaves, moths, and sometimes the light your watch reflects. He is quite the wimp though and would never jump off a moving boat. Sometimes driving through a large puddle puts him on the floor of the car quick! I don't know how I am going to train him not to go after a plug. I was thinking taking the hook off of a plug and training him that way. Any thoughts. This is a go every where with me dog.
