Random Quote: If you can go home and pull a $100 bill out , and flush it down the toilet, and if that doesn't bother you, then go ahead and buy a boat truthful words spoken by my outboard mechanic!!!!!!
Afishinado, you have NO idea what has happened to the Bertram brand. You have no information on their profitability as a company. Stop assuming that this event has had any impact on their business. It is idiotic to assume that Bertram will be libel for the incident until all FACTS have been presented and fault has been established. Talk to someone who can actually afford a boat like this and they'll tell you that they look at big ticket items such as multi million dollars boats a lot differently then you do. They are not as emotional about their purchases, and don't feel like CRYING if there is a problem with it. They attack the problem and come to a solution. You actually feel like CRYING because of the potential damage to the Bertram brand?? That's weird, sorry.
Libel??? thats for the lawyers to get into & screw up. Fisherman don't care about libel, they care about their boats not assploding 1/2 way out of the inlet. They don't care if it was the resin, the layup, a bad work crew... whatever. They see a 3 million dollar boat fall apart & thats enough info...
You talk about folks crying. They are not crying, they are mad. See, fisherman respect legends & Bertram is a legend. You say Bertram, they say "tank", or "tough" or classic. One way to piss off a bunch of these fellers (whom happen to be a tight nit group) is to tarnish the legend by having a Flagship like that 63 falling apart in normal conditions.
See, we know that old berties have ripped free in hurrincanes & destroyed every thing in their paths, boats, docks & the marina boat house. We know the stories of these old girls smashing waves & fishing when no other boat could... we know the history. Now, many will be afraid to cruise across the bay.
You think guys with older 35.33.31 foot Bertrams are now going to be afraid of crossing the Bay??? This is hysteria. The last thing I think is going to happen is my hull on my Bert splitting apart because of this incident. Calm Down, it's statements like that that is going to give all Bertram a bad name. There's an inch of SOLID glass on these battle wagons. Don't compare apples to oranges. Thank you.

Had an old (1978) 35 would go anywhere in that boat. That's back when Bert knew how to build them. We are now talking new boats, particulary a new boat that fell apart. Regardless of who, what, why, where, when and how it happend, it had the Bertram name on it, it came out of the Bertram factory, and was of sub-standard quality, Bertram's problem. End of story. You can say bad raw materials, poor workmanship etc. That is also Bertram's responsibility. If they can't QC incoming raw materials, and monitor how the thing is built, and properly QC the final product before delivery shame on them. If the owner went out in 8 ft. seas and ran 40+knots and the boat broke, then he was doing the exact thing that Bertrams are expected to do, again, shame on Bertram. My 2cents worth
Becca,
So set the record straight - are you affiliated with Bertram?
Nah, I dont think any boat maker would want to be affiliated with someone so arrogant. Obviously, just someone desperately lobbying to keep the Bertram name out of the toilet in an effort to prop up the resale of his own rig. 'A' for effort.
Becca you keep stirring the pot and you are doing nothing but attracting attention to this thread. If you were smart you would just shut your trap. That would be more helpful to Bertram than what you are doing.
No... we know old Berts are going to be around another 30 years, but the same can't be said about the new ones. Seems like they can't even keep them together.

BUSTED! New owner of an older 33, afraid that all of this negativity will diminish the value of their BERT, which is probably financed to the hilt, otherwise why document a $45,000 boat.
Nice try. But for your information the resale value of older Bertram's have been decimated enough solely on the hysteria of the fact that they have fiberglass fuel tanks and the ethanol issue. So, what happens to a new 63 foot Bertram has little to do with older Bertram's. Sorry................... 33 Bertram is a very nice boat though, you'll never see one of those have a hull failure!!! Bruce, since you only have a little, overpriced 29' boat, you certainly don't understand the reason for Documenting a vessel. Thank God your a freshwater boater, you have a better chance of survival.
