I caught this on July 5, in 140’ in Gulf of Mexico.

Toadfish is correct. No I did not get sick, as I avoided to touch it by all means.

I would not touch that thing...I would have just cut that line...Scorpionfish or Stonefish.

It's a scorpion fish. They are quite common on reefs in the Atlantic and Gulf.

It's definitely a Scorpionfish. See the scorpionfish in this picture I took down off Belize?



This one is easier to spot.

As a kid growing up in Rhode Island, we used to quahog with our bare feet in the Palmer River behind my house. We were all terrified of a fish that looked alot like Jay's Sculpin.

We called them Toegrinders, and legend had it that if one got ahold of your toe (or anything else) it would have to be cut off (the fish, not the toe).
