wow, i love this post.
always checking to see updates on progress --- sweet!
a while back someone mentioned stepped hull. is there a way theoretically to see if it makes a signifcant advantage?
also so in the build process i'd imagine it would make it a bit more difficult, but would it be any weaker or stronger?
I have considered putting steps in for a little more speed and efficiency. It would be more difficult the way we build them, but the benefits could far outweigh the cons. A 10% increase in speed and efficiency would be nice!!!!!!
Steps arent to be taken lightly.... they must be placed and designed correctly for them to be effective.
Dont like to give advice and seem like some one trying to horn in on your great successfull endeavor! Along with being a former boat builder I returned to commercial building construction lately and very successful. Heres a little, little advice not concerning your beautiful boat directly. Your cold molded hulls dont look like they are even 2000 pounds? Those roof trusses though not designed for but would easily support flipping your hull. especially with two 2 ton chain falls one on each truss. A brace would have to be added across boats beam at gunnel during flipping. If you used 4 chain falls you could spin it even more gently.
Billy, can you use diesel stern drives or waterjets in this design?
We considered diesel stern drives, but outboard power these days just makes sooo much more sense. With diesel costing more, the fuel economy is a wash and the initial cost of the diesel power is about 50% more as well along with the engineering required to install it.
Well I guess it has been a while since an update. Here are a few pics of progress. The decks are in and glassed. We are framing for the sidedecks. There is also a shot of the transom at 3"+. The photo doesnt show, but it is actually thicker than 3".
Once again it has been about a month. We are getting ready for high build primer then final 545 primer. The Yammi 350's are in.... we are getting pumped for Miami.
Once again its been too long since the last update. We will be final priming this week and painting next week. We will be cutting it close for Miami, but looks like we are gonna make it.
