Here are a few shots of my new ride, a 2008 Kona Jake the Snake cyclecross bike. It is ever so sweet! Just picked it up last week, I have 70 miles on her, mostly from a couple commutes to the office. Planning on at least twice a week to work. And no, I'm NOT turning green, just want the exercise and I love to ride. Plus, if you haven't looked at bikes in a long time there is a tremendous amount of accessories to spend money on!!
The ride
The helm with electronics and lighting system
Carbon fiber fork and trick wheels

Bencashen -- Gary Fisher makes some nice bikes, I'd probably be looking at them if I wanted another mountain bike. This is my first "road' bike and I love the cyclecross set up since you can still tear down the milder single track and fireroads/gravel paths and then hit the street and keep up with the roadies. This was my first experience going down a longish fairly steep hill at 40 mph in traffic, how sweet it was having to hit the brakes because the cars were going to slow!
My round trip commute is 33 miles, with 3 beers when I get home which roughly translates into one beer for every 11 miles. Not to bad BPM.

Capt Dan,
Where is the trottle located? I didn't see it on the handle bar(is it still OK to call it a handle bar?)
Nice ride, but look out for the cars.
Does it have air bags?

I have a friend who is biking with some friends from St Augustine FL to Eugene OR over seven weeks.... he is in his mid 50's (and has been inhaling too much concrete dust over the years apparently)
I ride my Walmart Bike to the conveniece store for beer....
Seriously I am always amazed at the technology in such a simple device as a bicycle and the fact they weigh about 4 ounces!
Wooddon -- the throttles aren't pictured since they are attached to my hips!!
Ddhand -- Your buddy is nuts, but I'd love to do something like that! The technology in these things is really amazing. this bike is light at 22 lbs, but by now means a featherweight. Higher end road bikes are coming in at 13 lbs and less with full carbon fiber or titanium frames. Then all the accessories are amazing, the light you see on the handlebar puts out nearly as much as a car headlight, it is VERY bright. next purchase is a new Garmin system that tracks your workouts and let's you race yourself on the open road, really cool stuff.
Rollin Thunder -- You can keep the Vette, but I sure like that Mercedes in the garage, a true classic. Would look good parked between my Suburban and the Albe!

4 mountain bikes, 1 road bike , 1 hybrid bike with my daughters bike seat attached. Last sunday did a 65 mile road ride to raise money for a school for autism in 100 deg heat.
Bikes and boats get in your blood, biking keeps me healthy , boating keeps me sane.
Artie -- You nailed it, biking (or running or any other sustained exercise program) keeps you healthy letting you eat more of the foods you want to eat, loaf around on the boat, go fishing and drink more beer -- all while living a healthier, longer life. What's not to like!
We have a Burley trailer we use for our son, it's a two seater that has a nice trunk area that woill hold a small cooler, food and diaper bag, great way to see cruise around with the family!

Yea, she is a classic, why its in the garage and never driven 1984 450sl, new engine, tranny, soft top, origional hard top, new interior, rugs, dash, seats, carpet, AC and heat, all the cool stuff, only thing not origional is i changed the headlights out to projector HIDS. other than that its all restored with origional parts, sadly i could not save the paint and had it repainted, but its like a brand spankin new car, and im never gunna sell it so im not worried about that, and i still didnt spend as much as i would have on a new one. Plus i get the classic style, i dont like the look of some of the newer ones. only has 98k miles on her too which from what i hear is not even broken in for a MB. which is funny since my 99 burban that i traded a couple of years ago has 300k miles on it. I love buying old junkers and restoreing them, got an 86 cadi fleetwood that i restored too, except for the engine and tranny since they are still kicken at 200k miles, everything is NEW origional, o yea and on this one i was able to save the paint. I still kick my self though for not swapping out that old 5.slow for a more powerful engine. But i like the fact that i can say its still got factory drive train at 200k.
im not much of a biker, other than when we go on vacation to exlplore. If im gunna be on 2 wheels its gunna be in mud and have a 500CC engine on it. LOL
Nice bike...just bought the '07 Cannondale CAAD9, with full Dura ace / Ultegra racing package. Bad A** bike, Carbon fiber cranks/forks. Have fun its a great way to see your abs again! http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bikes...hoice=fn_large
My wife and I have the Santana aluminum Tandem road bike. Use it mainly for touring and we ride the Tour For Cure rides in the area. The one here is a 2 day 150 mile up and back. We enjoy it thoroughly. I am the Captain and she is the stoker. You would think otherwise with all of the directions I get from the back. Our average before tandeming was around 15-18mph, now we run about 22mph average. Now we are riding about 3X a week to get ready for October ride. Definitely gets me quality time with wife and great exercise and it gets us away from the 7 kids.
Thats my problem...I mostly ride the mountain bike on the road whenever I cruise around- I'm thinking about swapping out tires to I can atleast have that going for me! That sure is a cool bike!
Ben -- Once you hop on a bike like this you'll be amazed at how much faster it is. Even on the gravel walking trail by my house, on the MB with 26x1.95 tires I'll be huffing a bit on the longer, slight uphill stretches, but on the cyclecross, with 700x35c tires, I just fly. In fact, I have to be careful because some of the turns that I'd take at full gallop on the MB will wipe me out on the cyclecross since I'm going so much faster.
Can't wait to hook the Burley up to it with the boy and see how she rides, but I'll have to get my wife a new bike to since there's no chance in the world that she'll keep up on her Rockhopper!

Ben, I meant to add, i purchased some Michelin City tires for my MB. They are basically slicks with some groove it them. I have not mounted them yet, but i'm sure they'll help over the knobbies. I think they are 26x1.85

I like the hybrid style or cyclecross bikes. I actually built this Cannondale from parts I had modeled after a "Bad Boy"
hyd disc brakes and all. Believe me I know about the "extras" you can add and how much you can spend on a bike getting it just right.
I added the granny basket and rack for my trip to Iraq. I rode this thig everyday with full body armor and weapon. To and from the flightline and chow hall.
Here it is outside my lovely "Trailer" I called home for 12 months. Notice the deck I built to keep mud out during rainy season. Believe it or not, water would rise to the bottom step when it rained. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRIGGIN DESERT!!!!
I also have a Cannondale Scalpel for serious cross country rides
