Default Tortuga

Yes the boat was finished. It was delivered in June. The owner loves his boat and has over 250 hours on her already. He told me that the live bait he took to Abaco lasted 3 weeks in the well. I went to Miami yesterday and took care of a few minor issues ( bilge switch, salt water washdown pump ) for him and the boat looks awesome. So far there have been no issues. probably because we were very anal with thew rigging. There is another thread on here that shows the finished product.

The hunt hull was an existing mold that I bought. it used to be the Catalina Islander hull. I changed the shearline for the last 15 feet to soften her up. She likes the outboards. Runs 48 MPH fully loaded with 520 in fuel and 100 water.

How did you decide on a 19 degree deadrise? Wouldnt a 24 degree deadrise be better? It seems to me that the type of hull that it is should be around 24 right? It will be steadier at anchor and at drift but the downside is a lesser ride correct?

These are not meant to be negative comment. I'm just asking.

It is a beautiful boat....I would love to have it.

The boat is gorgeous, especially the bow, the Hunt boats always look so "utilitarian" by the bows. Is there room under the deck for motors?

Default Deadrise

The 19 degrees is a good compromise for this boat. 24 degrees would require that the boat weight be substantially more. Remember this boat is 13 feet wide, over 11 feet at the transom. I did not want to produce a cork. The 24 degree botom would run better in a head sea of course. This design had enough entry that we still get a great , dry ride without the roll.

I see that you rebuild/repower inboard boats. Could you point me in the right direction for some info of swaping/repowering a 30' sportsfisher inboard boat over to outboards?

I have a 30' Wellcraft sportsbridge with twin 350's and I am thinking of repowering it over to twin outboard power. The boat is very close to a 28' bert as far as the hull. What I'm looking for is a bit more cruise speed/fuel. With the inboards, cruise is 22 knots at 3200 rpms and a fuel burn of 1.2 mpg. I would like to get cruise speed up to 27-28 knots and a bit higher fuel burn. Can it be done? I know my way around boats for building them in the past, but never took on a project like this before. Also on this boat,my plans is a complete rebuild by removing the cabin, leave the Vee berth and open the rest of the boat. Somewhat like your 34'er for a day boat. The hull dry is just under 10,000 lbs and I am sure once I cut down on weight,I should be able to bring it in under 8,500 lbs.

Thanks

Very nice and I did not realize you were in Sarasota. I have to come by at some point and introduce myself.

Here are some pictures of the finished interior. It is hard to get a good picture of the cuddy without a fisheye lens. It is about 8 feet wide and 7 feet long in the cuddy with a V taper towards the front. The 12 volt AC is really nice. especially while underway. It is a great place to crash out on a long trip as long as the seas are not too huge.
