Those things do a great job protecting the ramp at Kiptopeke State Park. There are always some big bass pulled out from around there too!

What were they originally used for?

I believe they were originally army training ships built during WWII. They were sunk to serve as a breakwater for the ferry out of Kiptopeke when the CBBT was under construction. There are a total of 9 ships in that location.

Those of you in the MD area can find a floating concrete ship near the boat ramp at Crab Alley Creek on Kent Island. I think someone lives aboard it.

That is very cool and an unusual piece of history.

Slightly different from the "concrete canoe" we made in Engineering School.

I was just thinking that. We spent entirely to much time grinding up things to try and use for the filler. Its almost unbelievable the first time you see a solid block of concrete floating in water.

Cool, here is whats left one in Bimini. It was used during prohibition among other things. It ran aground while being towed to Bimini a long time ago and was never moved. It was later used as target practice.

Its called the "Sapona" and its a lot of fun to snorkel around, tons of tropical fish. It sits in about 12-15' of water.
