It blows my mind that Rybovich layed out the specs for the perfect boat wayy back when and companies are still just bringing some of their age old innovations to the table on new boats. Nice pics.

No interior pics of Lizzy. The captain was on board and I didn't want to wear out my welcome by shooting pics. It had some great ideas though. Note the carbon fiber outriggers. The curved windshield is some sort of glass - not a composite, so it's really clear. Not sure how they made it, but I am sure it was expensive.
Yachtjim is right. Looking at RELEASE you see how far ahead they were in 1960. That boat is all original and the design works really well today.
Rybovich produced some of the most beautiful boats on the planet. The longevity of the boats is a testament to the quality of construction as well as the owners appreciation and love of craftsmenship.
The curved windscreen on "Lizzy" may be made from low iron glass, from what I can see in the picture it seems very clear. It really doesn't cost a heck of a lot of money for radius bent laminated safety glass. Especially when compared to what the overall cost of that boat must have been.
You really can't put any other builder in the same class as Rybovich. If they didn't start it all, they certainly refined it and took the prototype SF to the world. I have studied and admired the true genius that is Rybo since I was a littile boy. My life changed the day that I had the opportunity to visit the sleepy little Rybovich yard in 1979.
How many manufacturers/builders can put boats on a dock that span almost 60 years in age, and make all of us wonder which is the "new" boat? Timelessly elegant, awesome boats. This are handcrafted works of art, they have souls. No other builder even comes close. Rybos are not some "johnny come lately" floating clorox bottle flavor of the day. Don't get me wrong, I love all boats, but we must all tip our hats to the master boat builders at Rybovich. We should also say a special thanks to the owners of these boats that support this craft that so that we all may enjoy. Thanks rybo18 for the post!!
rybovich18,
Thanks for the great pics. Whenever I'm in the area ( about twice a year) I try to take a stroll through Rybo. Always friendly folks and something to see. Do you remember another "Charmer" built after 85? I seem to recall a 45+/- express.
Thanks again,
JollyMonNJ
Jolly,
You are right - there is a 45' express out there, built in 1989 I believe, that was called Charmer. I have a magazine layout showing it running alongside the 48' flybridge they made in 1989 as well. It was for sale last year at some point. I believe it was somewhere in the Carolina's.
Vic - for me it was seeing hull #24, a 31' little dayboat built in 1956, in 1984 when I worked at a marina on Pensacola Beach. It was the first Rybovich I had ever seen and I couldn't believe how cool it was, plus the fact it was, even at that point, a pretty old boat. I have been hooked on all custom boats ever since, but Merritt and Rybovich hold a special place for me.

Rybo - JimJim looks familiar, I may have spent an evening docked next to it a few years ago. Isn't that the design they like to refer to as "yachtfish"? Seem to remember the owner telling me they built 2 or 3 of them.
Re: Rybovich rendezvous 2008 (lots of pics) NEW PICS ADDED THURS. 21st
sr31aj - you are correct - yachtfish is how they termed them. There were three like this - Jim Jim, Rhino (was supposed to be there; didn't show) and the Chevy Clipper. Unfortunately, I was told that Chevy Clipper was pulled out of the water last week and destroyed. Apparently it had gone derelict and no one cared.

My grandparents had a Rybovich called the Resolute that they kept in Stuart and St. Thomas in the 70's before they built a Whiticar. Do you know what happened to it?

Rybo,
Amazing pictures. I too have a passion for custom made boats. I think it's a huge shame that Rybovich no longer builds "small" boats. I'd be the first one to buy a 40-45 express/ walkaround boat from them.
Re: Rybovich rendezvous 2008 (lots of pics) NEW PICS ADDED THURS. 21st
Those boats are true classics (and a few modern classics).
Is the "escalator" on "BULL" a Rybo feature? I have never seen a lift like that in the cockpit of a SF. You better not be in a hurry to get from flybridge to cockpit.
