Random Quote: The South doe not need to rise again, the North is sinking in a more than adequate manner.
Bob's Cay, how did you know we were using orange? Just kidding!! We've got to rig the boat and float her determine the actual waterline. This will locate of the hullside color and bootstripe. It will be fighting Lady Yellow with a medium blue bootstripe.
ScarabChris, I thing the holes you are asking about are the trim tab mounting recesses. We are trying the the Volvo "QL" trim tab system as the tabs are relatively small and do not protrude far beyond the face of the transom. If they do not work to my satisfaction, I'll go with the tried and true Lenco.
Thanks to all for the kind comments about the boat. I'm tired of sanding and painting, and the kudos help me keep focus to go ahead and git-r-dun.

I mean the holes on the hull sides just a few feet up from the transom. I spotted the QL mounting holes right away.

better every time I see it. A couple of questions...
I know you mentioned painting the topsides, so are you dry fitting the IO and tabs, or are you going to mask them off. Obviously, you know what you're doing so I'm just wondering how you arrived at the decision.
I noticed that the fuel vent is on the console. Won't this spill fuel into the cockpit if you overfill?

also, is that bowlight an LED setup?
again, really beautiful.
Hello Superfly!
The outdrive and tabs will be masked for hullside color painting. We have to load and float the boat to determine the waterline, which will locate the boot stripe and the hullside color. I have "guessed" at the waterline twice before, and once I was accurate. The second time I was not so lucky and had LOTs of sanding, masking, retaping, repainting to do. It cost me several good fishing trips. I will not make that mistake again.
The vent you see is a water tank vent. We do have a fill/vent combo inside the boat on the port side of the "step-up" forward. Yes, if you overfill, it will be inside. Thus, we will be VERY careful when fueling. Better that than having an issue with the authorities regarding a diesel spill. Yes the bowlight is LED. Thanks for the kind comments!!

Ah... well that certainly makes sense.... float once or paint twice... Thanks for answering that. Can't wait to see her on plane! Hey, where did you buy that bow light assembly? I'm thinking of switching mine out. I have a recessed one, but I'm changing bulbs every season. I'd rather go with sealed LEDs...
Accon Marine, # 211 LED pop-up bow light. I've gotta order the optional cup to keep the H2O off of the bow line. This light is a trick piece, although expensive.
Thanks for watching! I think we're gonna run her this week, maybe thurs or fri. We'll see, and hope that the creek doesn't rise!!
Thanks! It looks like I have the exact same light, only as a conventional fixture, so I'm all about swapping it out.
The drainage cup sounds like a good idea, but just an FYI I think I take more water into the anchor locker off the pop up cleat than my bow light. I'd do the same thing with that fixture if you can.
Wow, I was really jonesin for a fix........Truly top notch. The fit, reveals, attention to detail. That separates the men from the boys. Once again, you guys don't dissapoint! Looking forward to seeing her splash.
I'll be looking for you on the Pamlico this spring. I sure would love to shake your hand and thank you in person for all the smiles you have brought to my face while I was trapped behind the pc at work. What name will this beautiful, sexy lady be called? She sure is famous and has made many a man flock to the THT club on a regular basis to check out her curves!
One last question (for now)... it's tough to tell from the pics, but does she have some curve in the transom? (it might just be the camera lens) If so, did you shim the tabs or recess them a bit to keep them running straight? The curve might not be pronounced enough (if it's even there) to make a difference, but I had heard that those volvo tabs (which I've heard great things about) tend to steer the boat more than regular tabs if used on a curved transom without shimming them. Just curious, I'm sure you accounted for it.
The transom on my G20 has a pronounced curve and the dealer had to glass in some shims but the now no problems (I've got Bennets, not the volvos)
