Re: Solomons Island Maryland Beautiful place, nice restaurants, some overpriced yuppy lunch joints though. Did not notice a lot of real housing on the island itself (at least from bridge to Tiki Bar), just homes converted to shops and restaurants (touristy but not as bad as many waterfront towns). Saw one large house that a few years ago was listing at over $1M, so unless you are moving from a high cost of living area (DC, Annapolis, etc.) it will seem very expensive to buy there.
Still, if you have the money and a boat big enough to enjoy the river and the bay, it would be a wonderful place to live, retire, or work from home and less than an hour away from Mall type shopping if you needed it (maybe even closer depending on how much the Route 5 corridor has built up from La Plata south).
