Default Down to the ground

Sad but true...Anyone who has been in buzzards bay has probably used this to get home at some point.

The skyline will never be the same. Tough day for Dartmouth.

We have a few of those things on the Cheasapeake up in MD as well, I think they still use them though.

Marker150- The radome was built in the 40's by a fellow named Colonel Edward Howland Green and was the only remaining high frequency radio antenna left on the property. Originaly erected by MIT for studying radio frequencies afer WW2 it became a nautical landwmark synonymous with the harbor of Padanaram. It sat on private property and had been privaetly maintained until the death of the previous owner of the property. Now in new owners hands the 'radome' as it was called wsa said to require extensive repair so its come down to make way for a new home.

The Pic of it coming down looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie.

from what I hear, the previous owner's son sold out because he couldn't get on a committee at round hill...who knows, either way I dont think the radome had to go...they made 3 6' x 8' (approx.) holes in the base and left it for 4 days in winds up to 45kts. I think it could have lasted much longer...just my $.02.

Sort of symbolic of the Town's financial situation right about now.

That sucks. Too bad the previous owner didn't will it over to a land trust or landmark. It'll be harder to locate N.B. w/out the whale's tale.

So you guys are sorry to see it go? Could you imagine trying to get a permit to put that up now?

It was a DoD project back then and they could do whatever they wanted. Guy paid $8.5MM for 11 acres of land...he is demolishing the house and rebuilding a very nice home.

Yeah, I heard they just got cable out there, so I guess they won't be needing that old dish any more.
