I put my recently purchased 32 Cary into the boat yard yesterday. I am going to have the boat restored as is plus a few newelectronics. The hull surveyed good and the engines compression tested good. Pretty much everything else needs lots of attention. In fact I got to the yard just in time. The port side shifter cable broke when I left the slip and we almost had an electrical fire earlier in the morning. A ground wire had come loose and fallen onto the hot side of wiring bloc. That burning ground wire damaged several other wires too; however, I could start the engines and the bilge pumps worked. As I said, I got to the yard just in time. I will post more images later as she starts her restoration process.
Hey Mako25 that is a gorgeous Cary and man does it raise fish. I've fished with the previous owners for the last 6 years and admired that boat forever. It's quick and fuel efficient and raises billfish, I can't imagine what else you would want in a boat!
I am going to keep the running gear, gears and motors, so hopefully the good ole vibes will still be there when the yard is finished. Of all of the three Carys that I saw in Port A, this one was the faster of the three.
My brother has a 69 28' Cary and the thing is just a monster in rough weather. We have been out in really nasty stuff and it is amazing how well it handles. He has twin 454's and it flies. Full tower. I will try to get some pics.
We had one of these in the yard I worked at during high school. Twin Chrysler 440's w/straight pipes. Man did she bark! Nice teak cockpit sole as well.
Update. My new/old boat is at the yard and is being taken apart . So far no surprises except that my prop shafts are both cracked. The place for the fuel tank is going to be made to drain, rewire the boat, new hoses, cables, etc... I have a long list of stuff to do. I have attached pictures of the progress through 10/12/2007.
Cool....I love seeing rebuild pics like that. Keep them coming.
Yeah!!...this'll be fun to watch ... NICE hull, LOTTA deadrise and screws far apart...oughtta handle well most anywhere...and what about the bow on that puppy??...we need to see more ...
Nice looking boat,I have never heard of a Cary untill now. They sure do carry some kinda V. Good luck with the refit.
Cary was the original designer of the Blackfins. The old Blackfins 70s and early 80s were all Cary designs. Charles Jannace designed the later models.
Wrong, wrong and wrong. The 32 Cary was the original cigarette. The 28 Cary was the 28 Donzi. In the beginning Cary was a way for Don Aronow (owner/founder of formula/magnum/donzi/cigarette) to build boats while getting around a non compete clause in his contract for the sale of Magnum, when it was up he stretched the 32 to 36 to create the 36 cigarette. Your hull is the 24 degree deadrise 9'6" beam cigarette.
I knew that....Jannace's designs are much different...except for the deep V. I did some research after your post...including the Blackfin Boaters Group. They have a separate forum for the Cary-Blackfins. As you said cary didn't design them for Blackfin....but Blackfin acquired the molds and designs and produced them as Blackfin Combis prior to Jannace designs.
Thanks for clearing that up. Beautiful boat nonetheless...
